Job summary

Vertex Search is seeking a talented C++ Engineer for a Dublin trading desk. You will design, build, and maintain production C++ code that is correct, readable, and robust, while collaborating with quantitative researchers and traders.

You will need to understand unfamiliar code, fix issues confidently, and explain design decisions with clear trade-offs for safety, maintainability, and speed.

Qualifications

We are partnered with a highly successful quantitative trading firm who are seeking a talented C++ Engineer to join one of their trading desks team in Dublin.

You’ll be on the trading desk working closely with quantitative researchers, tradersa and fellow engineers working on:

• The Design, build, and maintain production C++ code that is correct, readable, and robust.
• Picking up unfamiliar code, understanding how it works, find where it goes wrong, and fix it with confidence.
• Make and explain design decisions, weighing tradeoffs such as simplicity, safety, maintainability, and speed.
• Work across different parts of a larger system, from how data comes in, to how it's processed, to how results are produced or acted on.
• Identifying where performance genuinely matters, and focus optimisation effort there rather than everywhere & reviewing code and share knowledge with teammates, communicating your reasoning clearly.

What the team is looking for:

• Strong, production grade, modern C++ (17/20/23/26) and its fundamentals (object lifetimes, memory and resource management, and data lifecycle)
• Meaningful experience with performance-sensitive or high-throughput systems and exposure to more than one layer of a larger system (e.g. ingestion, processing, and output or execution)
• Comfortable both writing new code from scratch and working within existing codebases.
• You think about tradeoffs before committing to an approach
• Clear communication
