Job summary

Collins McNicholas Recruitment is seeking an experienced Building Services Engineer for our Galway client to join the estates and infrastructure team.

The role covers operations management, major capital projects, energy performance and compliance across a large estate, coordinating mechanical, electrical and fire safety infrastructure with internal teams and suppliers. A Level 8 degree and 8–12 years post-qualification experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • A Level 8 degree in Building Services, Mechanical, Electrical, Energy Engineering or related.
  • Membership of or eligibility for membership of a recognised professional body.
  • Typically 8–12 years' post-qualification experience in building services engineering.
  • Experience delivering mechanical and/or electrical projects and coordinating contractors.
  • Strong knowledge of building services, health & safety and safe systems of work.
  • Experience taking projects from concept through procurement and commissioning.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding energy efficiency and sustainable building operations.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical and utility services.
  • Coordinating internal teams, contractors and specialist service providers.
  • Supporting preventative and reactive maintenance programmes and business continuity planning.
  • Delivering mechanical and electrical capital and minor works projects from design through procurement to commissioning.
  • Reviewing technical submissions, specifications and designs.
  • Supporting fire safety, statutory compliance, health and safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Contributing to energy management, decarbonisation and sustainability initiatives.
  • Supporting building management systems, performance monitoring, KPIs and service improvement.
  • Assisting with budgets, procurement, contractor management and service frameworks.

Job description

Our Galway based client areseeking an experienced Building Services Engineer to join its estates and infrastructure team. This is an excellent, permanent opportunity for an engineer looking to broaden their experience across operational management, major infrastructure, compliance, energy performance and capital projects.

The role will support the management and continuous improvement of mechanical, electrical, fire safety and energy infrastructure across a large and complex estate.

Key responsibilities include:

The successful candidate will have:
  • A Level 8 degree in Building Services, Mechanical, Electrical, Energy Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Membership of, or eligibility for membership of, a recognised professional body.
  • Typically 8–12 years' post-qualification experience in building services engineering or a related technical environment.
  • Experience delivering mechanical and/or electrical projects and coordinating contractors or multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong technical knowledge of building services, health and safety and safe systems of work.
  • Experience taking projects from concept through procurement and commissioning.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • An understanding of energy efficiency and sustainable building operations.

Experience in public procurement, asset management, maintenance strategy, infrastructure operations or energy management would be advantageous.
