This role is responsible for the design and configuration of intelligent Building Management Systems (BMS), including control narratives, Control strategy software and front-end graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for end users.
The BMS will monitor and control Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) HVAC plant and associated building services—such as air conditioning, and water systems to improve energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project stakeholders (primarily, the design manager and project team) to capture client requirements and translate them into functional BMS design and operating strategies
- Identify design gaps, ambiguities, or conflicts and raising requests for information (RFIs) through the appropriate project channels
- Produce clear and structured control narrative documents detailing system functionality, sequences of operation, and control procedures.
- Program BMS controllers and devices to ensure coordinated operation across building systems, optimising performance and reducing energy consumption.
- Develop and configure intuitive, user-friendly graphical interfaces that enable end users to monitor and interact effectively with the BMS.
- Provide technical documentation for interfacing with third party systems including connection baud rates and list of registers
- Produce clear testing documentation for software factory acceptance testing (SFATs) and site acceptance testing (SATs)
- Run or provide assistance for software factory acceptance testing
- Perform internal testing to verify correct system operation, diagnose faults, and implement corrective actions as required.
- Maintain accurate, up to date records of designs works, revisions, and modifications, ensuring robust document control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of standard control strategies, templates, and internal design tools.
- Provide peer review and informal technical guidance to junior team members, where appropriate.
The above list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be subject to change in line with business needs
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot issues methodically.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with internal teams and engage with clients/end users.
- Strong attention to detail and an organised approach to documenting work and following procedures.
Preferred Experience (training will be provided)
- Exposure to Building Automation / BMS platforms such as Trend, Distech, and Tridium (Niagara), ALC, Saia Burgess, CODESYS Programming Platform, Phoenix Contact Controllers, WAGO Controllers would be a significant advantage.
- Basic knowledge of programming concepts and building technology systems, including front-end GUI development/configuration.
- Familiarity with CAD drawings and the production of control narratives and technical documentation
- Understanding of HVAC plant and building services (AHUs, FCUs, chilled water, boilers, pumps, valves, sensors, etc.)
