Job summary

GCS Recruitment Specialists is seeking an experienced Infrastructure & Cloud Operations Engineer in Dublin for a 6‑month daily rate contract. You will support, maintain and improve a mixed on‑premises and cloud footprint with a focus on Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365 and modern infrastructure operations.

You will collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, security, service desk and applications teams, ensuring critical systems remain secure, stable and highly available while following ITIL

Qualifications

• Experience in infrastructure engineering or cloud operations

Infrastructure & Cloud Operations Engineer

Dublin | Hybrid | Daily Rate Contract | ~6 Months

We're looking for an experienced Infrastructure & Cloud Operations Engineer to join a large, established organisation on an initial 6-month daily rate contract.

The role sits within the IT infrastructure team and will focus on supporting, maintaining and improving a mix of on-premises and cloud infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365 and modern infrastructure operations.

You'll work closely with teams across infrastructure, cloud, security, service desk and applications, as well as external technology partners, to keep critical systems secure, stable and highly available.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Cloud Operations

• Maintain, configure and support on-premises and cloud infrastructure across servers, storage, virtualisation, networking and core compute environments.

• Monitor system performance, capacity and availability, identifying and implementing improvements to reliability and resilience.

• Carry out patching, upgrades and configuration changes in line with established change processes.

• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and act as an escalation point for 1st and 2nd line teams.

• Troubleshoot hardware issues and coordinate repairs or replacements where required.

Microsoft Azure

• Administer, support and optimise Microsoft Azure infrastructure and platform services.

• Manage Azure resources including virtual machines, storage, networking, security controls and identity services.

• Support cloud security initiatives across Microsoft Defender, Azure security controls, Conditional Access and Zero Trust.

• Support cloud migration, infrastructure modernisation and wider Azure adoption projects.

• Work with Azure Landing Zone standards, subscriptions and RBAC.

Microsoft 365 & Modern Workplace

• Support and administer Microsoft 365 services including Teams, SharePoint, Exchange Online and OneDrive.

• Administer Entra ID, Conditional Access, MFA and device compliance.

• Monitor Microsoft 365 service health and resolve Tier 2 issues.

• Support endpoint management and modern workplace initiatives using Microsoft Intune.

Incident, Problem & Change Management

• Manage and resolve infrastructure incidents within agreed SLAs.

• Follow ITIL-based processes across incident, problem and change management.

• Participate in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Provide clear technical updates and communication to relevant stakeholders.

Security & Compliance

• Implement and maintain infrastructure security controls in collaboration with security teams.

• Remediate vulnerabilities and apply security patches across infrastructure.

• Support Zero Trust and wider security initiatives.

• Ensure infrastructure remains aligned with relevant security, regulatory and organisational standards.

Projects & Continuous Improvement

• Support infrastructure upgrades, migrations and transformation projects.

• Contribute to cloud adoption and infrastructure modernisation initiatives.

• Identify opportunities for automation, optimisation and simplification.

• Create and maintain technical documentation, support procedures and operational runbooks.

Essential Experience

• Experience in infrastructure engineering, cloud operations or a similar technical operations role.

• Strong experience across Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP.

• Strong Microsoft 365 experience across Teams, OneDrive, Exchange Online, Intune and Entra ID.

• Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure and cloud services.

• Strong understanding of virtualisation, ideally VMware, storage and backup technologies.

• Experience working within ITIL-based incident, problem and change management processes.

Desirable Skills

• PowerShell or another scripting language.

• Azure certifications such as AZ-104 or AZ-800.

• Microsoft 365 Administrator certification.

• Networking certifications such as CCNA/CCDA or equivalent.

• ITIL Foundation or equivalent.

• Security certification such as CISSP.

• Experience with infrastructure monitoring or device analytics tools.

• Exposure to Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).

• Knowledge of CI/CD, GitHub Enterprise and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

• Experience supporting cloud migration or infrastructure modernisation programmes.
