Job description

About Minerex Environmental:

Minerex Environmental is a leader in providing specialised environmental services, with a core focus on dewatering, over-pumping, water treatment, and environmental management for the construction, mining, and pharmaceutical industries. We offer innovative and sustainable solutions to water management challenges, ensuring efficient resource utilisation while minimising environmental impact. Our commitment to excellence and regulatory compliance ensures that we help our clients achieve operational goals while protecting ecosystems and maintaining the highest safety standards.

Position Overview:

We’re looking for a hands‑on Automation Systems Engineer with experience in Modbus RTU, SCADA and industrial control systems to help us roll out a new remote automation platform across our fleet of water treatment and pumping equipment.

Our current automation system is being phased out in 15 months, and we’re transitioning to a fully new platform. Among other responsibilities, you’ll be working directly with our Telemetry Manager to design, test, and deploy solutions that integrate with our existing infrastructure. This role is key to ensuring reliable site monitoring and control post‑transition.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Automation Deployment: Configure and deploy automation devices across our fleet, ensuring reliable communication using Modbus RTU.
  • Device Integration: Work with various industrial devices (pumps, sensors, controllers) and ensure clean, consistent integration over RS‑485 and serial networks.
  • Monitoring Development: Assist in developing device templates, alarms, and dashboards for remote monitoring.
  • Documentation: Write and maintain detailed documentation, wiring guides, and deployment procedures.
  • Field Support: Support with testing, field deployments, and troubleshooting of live systems.
  • Modbus Expertise: Act as a knowledge resource on Modbus RTU mapping, polling strategies, and protocol‑level debugging.
  • Legacy System Migration: Help phase out the legacy system by ensuring all assets are migrated and verified before the cutoff date.
  • Company Procedures and Practices: Demonstrate familiarity with, proficiency in, and adherence to all office and field procedures and practices.
  • Vehicles: Organise and maintain any vehicle you drive, whether personal or company-owned, to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Store and Office Organisation: Organise, maintain and stock sampling equipment stores, suggesting and implementing constructive changes to improve efficiency.
  • Electrical Box Builds: Build, wire, and test new electrical control boxes for site deployment.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Assist with repairs, maintenance, and upgrades to existing field equipment.
  • Schematics and Documentation: Read and interpret electrical schematics and update documentation as needed.
  • Stock and Quality Control: Help manage stock levels and ensure quality control on new builds.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to process improvements and standardisation of designs.
Qualifications:
  • Level 7+ qualification in Automation/Mechatronic, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Preferably 2+ years of experience in Automation Engineering, fieldwork, or related roles.
  • Familiarity with electrical regulations, including European guidelines and compliance standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with proficiency in automation software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and team discussions.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred Skills:
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Certifications such as Safe Pass, Manual Handling etc.
  • Experience in groundwater and surface water sampling, monitoring, and remediation.
  • Solid experience working with Modbus RTU in industrial automation environments.
  • Comfortable working with electrical control panels, wiring, and test procedures.
  • Familiarity with field devices like pumps, sensors, PLCs, and remote IO.
  • Able to troubleshoot both hardware and protocol‑level issues.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a proactive and practical mindset.
What We Offer:
  • Opportunity to work with a leading environmental consulting firm with a focus on water management and sustainability.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Pension
