Job summary

Eurofins Biomnis in Ireland invites applications for an Associate Practitioner Histology in its Dublin 18 laboratory. The role focuses on frontline histology work with training and development support provided to progress within the organisation.

This fixed term position is for 2 years, with potential extension dependent on business needs. You will be part of a team delivering high-quality laboratory services and patient-focused reporting.

Qualifications

  • Relevant science diploma / degree or have completed the state exams qualification requirements in country of training
  • Previous experience in similar role but not mandatory (can be trained in‑house post qualification)
  • Candidates must have the personal competence and capacity to properly discharge the duties of the role

Responsibilities

  • Use of Laboratory Information Management Systems in place in the laboratory.
  • Associate Practitioners work under supervision at different levels (direct, indirect, remote) as per competency.
  • Perform clerical and laboratory aide duties where required.
  • Advise of equipment failures or problems encountered.
  • Report incidents (Incident report) and handle reagent preparation and stock maintenance.

Associate Practitioner Histology

We are currently seeking to recruit an Associate Practitioner to join our team in our Histology Laboratory in Eurofins MC Pathology in Sandyford, Dublin 18. An organised professional, who enjoys solving issues to the very end, and looking to grow your experience in a laboratory/medical setting. Training and development support will be given to you to help your progression within the organisation.

This is a fixed term position for 2 years, with the possibility of an extension subject to business needs.

Specific Tasks
  • Use of Laboratory Information Management Systems in place in the laboratory.
  • Associate Practitioners work under one of three levels of supervision (direct, indirect, remote). The level of supervision is determined by the Chief Biomedical Scientist and is based on the competency of the Associate Practitioner in performing a specific process /test.
    • All Associate Practitioners work under direct supervision when training in the microtomy, block check, embedding, and immunohistochemistry set-up benches. Direct supervision means a trained and competent Medical Scientist is in direct proximity to the Associate Practitioner trainee.
    • After completing a training program and being deemed competent by the Chief Biomedical Scientist and the Consultant Head of Department, or their deputy, the trainee may perform microtomy, embedding, block check, and immunohistochemistry set-up under indirect supervision. Indirect supervision means a trained and competent Medical Scientist is on site and is available should the Associate Practitioner need their guidance.
    • Remote supervision is reserved for immunohistochemistry set-up. Once an Associate Practitioner is trained and deemed competent in the set-up of the immunohistochemistry processor, any queries they may have may be answered remotely (i.e. via telephone) by a trained and competent Medical Scientist.
  • The Associate Practitioner may perform clerical and laboratory aide duties. These duties do not require the same level of supervision as when performing duties in routine histology processing.
  • To advise of any equipment failures or problems encountered in the course of carrying out his/her duties.
  • Reporting of incidents (Incident report).
  • Reagent preparation.
  • Assist in maintaining reagent stocks.Sample preparation in accordance with SOP’s.
  • QC result data entry.
  • Maintenance of instrumentation.

Working Hours: 37.5 Hours p/w, Monday-Friday
