Job summary

UnitedHealth Group's Optum in Ireland seeks an Associate Finance Director to lead financial analytics, planning, and reporting for our pharmacy benefit services teams. The role supports cross-functional partners, manages the network margin forecast, and presents to executive leadership, with a hybrid arrangement between our Dublin office and home-based work in Ireland.

You will mentor analysts, collaborate on budgeting, and drive process improvements using Hyperion Essbase and Power BI.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent).
• Proven extensive experience in financial analysis, accounting, or related finance functions.
• Proven experience leading, mentoring, coaching, or developing analysts.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office applications, and related technology tools.
• Solid working knowledge of financial systems, financial statements, and financial reporting.
• Ability to work effectively within matrixed environments and influence cross-functional stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the network margin analytics team, coaching, development, and workload prioritization.
• Provide timely financial support for a specific OptumRx business division and its leaders.
• Translate analysis into actionable recommendations for Industry Relations, Contract Management, Network, and Legal.
• Maintain alignment with Industry Relations and understand client renewal cycles and financial drivers.
• Influence discount guarantees and partner with contract management to adjust as needed.
• Participate in client strategy discussions to identify performance opportunities.
• Perform in-depth ad hoc analysis for senior finance leadership.
• Track legislation risk with cross-functional teams to size and mitigate financial risk.
• Own the network margin forecast process from start to finish.
• Interface with business leaders to support financial planning and performance measurement.
• Collaborate with budgeting and forecasting teams; present to execs at month-close and quarterly forecasts.
• Leverage technology and drive process improvements; own financial data queries and reporting tools.

The

Associate Finance Director

is responsible for leading financial analytics, planning, and reporting in support of our pharmacy benefit services teams.

Careers with Optum offer flexible work arrangements and individuals who live and work in the Republic of Ireland will have the opportunity to split their monthly work hours between our Dublin office and telecommuting from a home-based office in a hybrid work model.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead the network margin analytics team, including one direct report, with responsibility for coaching, development, and workload prioritization
• Provide timely financial support for a specific OptumRx business division and its leaders
• Serve as the finance point of contact for Industry Relations, Contract Management, Network, and Legal, translating analysis into recommendations these partners can act on
• Create and maintain a tight alignment with Industry Relations and become an active participant in understanding client renewal cycles and the overall financial drivers and implications to their renewals or market checks
• Understand and influence the ability to manage client discount guarantee performance and seek to make timely changes with the contract management team
• Participate in client strategy discussions to seek opportunities for increased performance
• Perform in-depth ad hoc analysis, providing senior finance leadership with key insights for decision making
• Track current and proposed legislation risk, working with cross-functional teams to ensure financial risk is sized and mitigated
• Own the network margin forecast process from start to finish
• Interface with business leaders and build relationships in support of financial planning and performance measurement, including reporting and analysis
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in conjunction with the budgeting and forecasting process
• Present to executive leadership at month-close and quarterly forecasts
• Leverage technology and carry out process improvement activities
• Own and drive efficiency in financial data queries and reporting tools used by the team

Required Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• Qualified Accountant (ACA),(ACCA), (CPA), or equivalent credential
• Proven extensive experience in financial analysis, accounting, or related finance functions
• Proven experience leading, mentoring, coaching, or developing analysts
• Demonstrated advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office applications, and related technology tools
• Demonstrated solid working knowledge of financial systems, financial statements, and financial reporting
• Demonstrated business curiosity, with proven experience independently investigating and evaluating underlying business drivers and financial performance
• Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
• Proven ability to work effectively within matrixed environments and positively influence cross-functional stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

• Proven experience within Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM), pharmacy, managed care, or related healthcare environments
• Demonstrated familiarity with pharmacy network pricing, discount guarantees, rebate economics, or related pharmacy financial models
• Demonstrated exposure to state and federal PBM legislation and its financial implications
• Proven experience utilizing Hyperion Essbase, Power BI, Tableau, or similar reporting and analytics tools
• Proven experience programming with SQL, VBA, Python, or similar technologies
• Proven experience in project management, process improvement, or operational excellence initiatives
• Demonstrated advanced analytical skills
