Job summary

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. is seeking a Principal Cable System Engineer to lead design delivery for HV/EHV projects up to 400kV, from tender through handover, within our Ireland and Continental Europe Power & Energy portfolio.

You will provide technical leadership on HV cable system design, perform calculations, ensure CDM compliance, and coordinate with clients and subcontractors across FEED and detailed design stages for HV and HVDC systems.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Power Engineering (or equivalent) required.
• Extensive experience in energy sector consultancy or utility environment.
• Proven ability to lead HV/EHV cable designs across multiple project stages.

Responsibilities

• Develop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design and design reviews.
• Provide technical support on HV cable system engineering and design.
• Prepare plant/equipment specifications, power cable route specs, tender specifications, and progress reports.
• Interface with other engineering functions; attend/lead meetings with clients and subcontractors.
• Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating, TMF and EMF calculations, and sheath-induced voltage.
• Perform design reviews and verification of design.
• Ensure all project designs comply with CDM regulations and applicable laws.
• Assist with temporary works design schemes.
• Maintain good relations with client/designer/supply chain.
• Ensure drawings/specifications contain sufficient information for construction; request missing data timely.
• Ensure inspection and test plans are completed as per PMP/Specification.

As our Ireland and Continental Europe team continues to expand, we are seeking a Principal Cable System Engineer to support a range of high-profile projects across our Power & Energy portfolio. This includes high voltage AIS and GIS Substations, transmission system assets, HVDC interconnectors, and energy storage systems.

You will lead the design delivery for Cable System Projects up to 400kV, from the tendering stage through to project handover. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Developing HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design and design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
• Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design
• Prepare plant and equipment technical specification, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports
• Ensuring correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects, attend, and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
• Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, TMF and EMF calculations, Sheath induced voltage calculations and other.
• Perform design reviews, verification of design
• Ensuring all project designs are compliant with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures
• Assist with temporary works design schemes.
• Maintain good working relations with client / designer / Team, together with our supply chain.
• Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works. Formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the programme to proceed without delay.
• Ensure that inspection and test plans are completed as required by the PMP / Specification, including a check of dimension accuracy and quality

Here’s what you’ll need:

• Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering
• Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector
• Extensive experience in a cable related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design
• Able to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all projects stages
• Experienced user of CYMCAP to support cable system design
• Experience of working at EHV transmission voltages
• Experience in the design of HV and EHV cable systems, for both HVAC and HVDC systems
• Familiarity with EirGrid, National Grid and DNO standards and processes
