Job summary

Byrne Wallace Shields LLP in Ireland is seeking an Associate for our Data Protection Corporate team with a minimum of 3 years’ PQE. You will advise on privacy, GDPR and data protection in commercial contracts, data sharing agreements, and DPIAs, while supporting clients across business units and delivering training.

The role requires strong drafting and research skills, a commercial mindset, and the ability to work both independently and within a team.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years' PQE in data protection, GDPR and related contracts.
• Excellent drafting and legal research skills.
• Strong commercial awareness and communication.

Responsibilities

• Advise on privacy, data protection, GDPR and commercial contracts.
• Assist with data sharing and data processing agreements.
• Develop data protection policies and procedures.
• Address data protection in commercial contracts and transactions.
• Draft online terms, e-privacy and direct marketing provisions.
• Conduct gap analyses, risk assessments and DPIAs.
• Monitor developments in data protection and information security; respond accordingly.
• Support other business units on data protection issues.
• Provide ongoing training and support to clients.
• Investigate data breaches and carry out remedial work.

• Privacy, data protection, GDPR and commercial contracts
• Data sharing and data processing agreements
• Data protection policies and procedures
• Data protection in commercial contracts and transactions
• Online terms and conditions, e‑privacy and direct marketing
• Gap analysis/risk assessment/data protection impact assessments
• Monitoring and responding to developments in data protection and information security
• Providing support to other business units as required on data protection issues
• Providing ongoing training and support to clients
• Investigating data breaches and carrying out remedial work in the aftermath of data breaches

Key skills:

• A minimum of 3 years’ experience with a background in data protection/GDPR experience, regulation, corporate and commercial contracts
• Excellent technical and drafting skills
• Strong legal research and analytical skills
• Strong commercial awareness/business acumen
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
