Job description

Shape the future of infrastructure

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an enthusiastic and organised Assistant Project Manager to join our Civil / Aviation Infrastructure team in Ireland.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer or construction professional who wants to develop a career in project management while contributing to the delivery of significant civil engineering and infrastructure projects.

Working alongside experienced Project Managers and multidisciplinary technical teams, you will support projects from initial planning and design through procurement, construction and handover. Depending on your experience, you may also take responsibility for managing smaller or lower-risk projects under appropriate guidance.

Your purpose

You will help the Project Manager maintain control of project scope, programme, cost, risk, quality and communications. You will coordinate inputs from civil, structural, environmental, geotechnical and other technical disciplines, helping the team deliver clear, coordinated, and high-quality project outcomes.

Key responsibilities
  • Support the planning, coordination and delivery of civil infrastructure projects.
  • Assist with project mobilisation, kick-off meetings and preparation of project execution documents.
  • Maintain project programmes, deliverable schedules, action trackers and reporting calendars.
  • Monitor progress against agreed milestones and highlight emerging delays or constraints.
  • Coordinate information and actions across multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, progress reports and client presentations.
  • Support the management of project scope, assumptions, interfaces and deliverables.
  • Assist with risk identification, maintenance of risk registers and implementation of mitigation actions.
  • Support change control, including the identification and recording of scope changes.
  • Assist with monitoring project budgets, resources, expenditure and fee performance.
  • Support invoice preparation and maintenance of financial and change registers.
  • Coordinate with subconsultants, contractors, statutory bodies and project stakeholders.
  • Help ensure that project documentation is complete, current and appropriately controlled.
  • Support compliance with health and safety, quality and project management procedures.
  • Assist the Project Manager with client meetings, stakeholder engagement and project close-out.
What we are looking for
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, construction management, project management or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience within civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, transportation, water or the wider construction sector.
  • An interest in developing a career in project and programme management.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • A structured and proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • An understanding of project programmes, budgets, risk and change management.
  • Competence in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and project scheduling tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Awareness of construction health and safety and quality management requirements.
  • Full clean driving licence and willingness to undertake site visits across Ireland
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
  • Experience reviewing technical drawings, specifications, and contractor submissions, with the ability to identify key coordination, programme and constructability issues (full technical design review experience is not required).
  • Commercial awareness, including programme, scope and change management.

Experience of NEC contracts, infrastructure design delivery, public-sector projects or construction-stage coordination would be advantageous but is not essential.

What we offer

You will receive structured support from experienced Project Managers while gaining practical exposure to project delivery, commercial management, programme controls, risk, client engagement and multidisciplinary coordination.

The role provides a clear development pathway toward becoming a Project Manager, supported by mentoring, training and access to AtkinsRéalis project management resources and professional development programmes.
