Job description

Join Our Team at Raigmore Hospital – Assistant Practitioner (Band 4)

Raigmore Hospital’s Acute Adult ANP/ACP Service is currently recruiting for Band 4 Assistant Practitioners (AP’s) to join our dynamic and well-established team.

Our service comprises 30+ qualified Advanced Practitioners, several trainee ANP/ACPs, and a dedicated group of Assistant Practitioners who support both the medical and Advanced Practice workforce. We provide care across a range of specialties including Hospital at Night, General Surgery, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Frailty Team and General & Acute Medicine—and alongside Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC).

We are looking for experienced healthcare support workers who have worked in an acute hospital environment and can evidence ongoing learning and development.

The job will be physically and emotionally demanding as the post-holder will provide clinical and administrative support to Medical and Nursing staff and undertake a range of clinical and non‑clinical duties. Registered healthcare staff will delegate roles and tasks and you must have the ability to work independently and with supervision. You will carry out minor clinical procedures such as venepuncture, cannulation and catheterisation, assist with medical procedures and provide assistance to medical emergency and cardiac arrest teams. You will be required to work in and out of hours, which may include days, evening and weekends.

Essential Criteria
  • Assistant Practitioners are required to have completed a relevant qualification in Healthcare at SCQF level 7‑8 or above. Examples of common qualifications include Higher National Certificate/Diploma (HNC/D) or Professional Development Award (PDA) at Level 8.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of three National Qualifications, including a Standard Grade pass (or equivalent) in English and two other subjects.
  • Applicants must have good communication skills and a strong command of both written and spoken English.
  • Applicants must have recent acute hospital experience within the past 2 years and be able to relate this to the Assistant Practitioner role.
  • Applicants must be able to provide evidence of completion of Mandatory Induction Standards or equivalent if out with NHS Scotland.
