Job summary

Murphy is offering an Apprenticeship Programme in Ireland for a Quantity Surveying Apprentice. The role is site-based with regular travel across Ireland and opportunities in the UK.

You will work with experienced team members, gaining hands-on commercial experience while studying towards a recognised Quantity Surveying qualification. The programme follows an earn-and-learn model, developing skills in measurement, cost control, procurement, reporting and contract understanding as you progress

• Genuine interest in construction, commercial management and infrastructure projects. No prior experience needed, readiness to learn.

Quantity Surveying Apprenticeship Programme

Murphy is pleased to offer positions on the Quantity Surveying Apprenticeship Programme in Ireland. This programme provides an exciting alternative route into the construction and commercial management profession, combining practical work experience with academic study.

Our apprenticeship follows an "earn and learn" model, allowing you to gain valuable industry experience while working towards a recognised qualification. Throughout the programme, you'll develop the commercial, financial and contractual knowledge needed to support the successful delivery of major infrastructure and construction projects.

What You'll Do

As a Quantity Surveying Apprentice, you'll work alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors and Project Teams, gaining hands‑on commercial experience while developing your technical and professional skills.

You’ll Be Placed On a Variety Of Project Sites And Offices Across Ireland, Where You'll Gain Exposure To Activities Such As

• Assisting with the measurement and valuation of construction works
• Supporting the preparation of cost estimates and budgets
• Learning how project costs are monitored and controlled
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and project documentation
• Assisting with subcontractor administration and procurement activities
• Supporting the preparation of progress reports and cost forecasts
• Developing an understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes
• Learning how to manage change and variations on projects

As your skills and knowledge develop, your responsibilities will expand to include:

• Assisting with interim valuations and payment applications
• Supporting the preparation and negotiation of subcontract agreements
• Helping to manage project cost reporting and commercial forecasting
• Contributing to the assessment and valuation of variations and compensation events
• Assisting with the preparation of monthly commercial reports
• Supporting the management of subcontractor accounts and final accounts
• Developing an understanding of risk management and commercial strategy
• Learning to identify cost‑saving opportunities and value engineering solutions
• Collaborating with project teams to ensure commercial objectives are achieved
• Supporting the preparation of contractual correspondence and documentation

Programme Qualification

Apprentices will study at an approved college which you will need to apply for and work towards a recognised qualification in Quantity Surveying. The programme combines academic learning with practical workplace experience, providing a strong foundation in commercial and construction management principles.

Upon completion, you'll achieve a recognised qualification in Quantity Surveying, providing the educational foundation for progression towards professional membership with the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI).

Location and Travel Requirements

This apprenticeship will involve placements across Ireland. Many of our sites are in remote locations, so a willingness to travel is essential, and a full clean driving licence is required.

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum qualification: 6 subjects at 06/H, 2 subjects at H5 English or Irish at 06/H7 Maths at 06/H7

Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

A genuine interest in construction, commercial management and infrastructure projects. No prior experience is needed, just a readiness to learn, a positive mindset, and a can‑do attitude!
