Job summary

Hewlett Packard Enterprise in Galway, Ireland seeks an AI Innovation Engineering Intern to join the Intelligent Edge team. You will learn and collaborate on software projects with guidance from an R&D group creating private cloud solutions for high-performance workloads.

You will work in a hybrid setup, starting 11 January 2027 for ~8 months, with guidance from senior engineers and opportunities to grow in AI tooling and software development practices.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Exposure to the Linux operating system and scripting languages such as Python.
• Curiosity about large language models and hands-on use of coding agents.

Responsibilities

• Work on a specific project critical to HPE in an Agile environment.
• Build software with AI coding agents at the center of workflow using OpenCode and Copilot.
• Learn to write prompts and specifications for coding agents to deliver high-quality results.
• Review, verify, and test agent-generated code ensuring correctness, security and quality.

Job Description

We are looking for a AI Innovation Engineering Intern within HPE, Intelligent Edge to join us!

You will have an exciting opportunity to learn and collaborate on software engineering projects with guidance from R&D team that creates the innovative private cloud solutions that our customers depend on for high performance workloads.

Mandatory Requirements

Enrolled in a University during the internship and eligibility to work in Ireland in full-time during the internship

What You’ll Do

• Work on a specific project critical to HPE in an Agile environment
• Build software with AI coding agents at the center of your workflow — using tools like OpenCode and Copilot to plan, write, test, and refactor code
• Learn to write clear, well-scoped prompts and specifications that let coding agents deliver high-quality, production-ready results
• Review, verify, and test agent-generated code, you stay accountable for correctness, security, and quality, not the model
• Automate repetitive engineering tasks and build agentic workflows that chain tools, run tests, and iterate autonomously
• Receive guidance from a senior member of the Engineering team who will help you technically approach the use cases and get the most out of AI tooling
• Utilize new trends in AI-assisted development, software development methodologies, and techniques

What You’ll Bring

• Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Exposure to the Linux operating system and scripting languages such as Python, but more importantly, a passion for technology and for building with AI tools
• Curiosity about large language models and hands‑on interest in using coding agents to solve real problems
• Solid fundamentals in reading and reasoning about code.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

What We’d Prefer You Know

• Experience experimenting with AI coding assistants or LLM-based tools on personal or academic projects
• Good time management and project management skills
• Confidence and self-motivation both when working independently and as part of a team, including directing and supervising AI agents
• Strong desire to excel and surpass expectations
• Enthusiasm, motivation, and willingness to learn and adapt as the tooling evolves
