Job summary

Ingenium, a management consultancy, is seeking an AI Engineer to join our growing team in Ireland. You'll design, build and deploy AI systems in real client environments, using real data and aligning with security and governance requirements.

This hands-on, client-facing role involves moving from proof of concept to production, collaborating with stakeholders, and delivering reliable AI solutions that solve real business challenges across strategy, transformation and digital innovation.

Qualifications

• 4+ years’ experience in software engineering or a related technical role.
• Hands-on experience building LLM-based systems used by real users.

Responsibilities

AI is becoming an increasingly important part of our client work, and we're looking for an AI Engineer to join our growing team.

The Opportunity

You’ll help turn AI opportunities into working solutions that deliver real value for our clients.

Working directly with clients and our wider consulting team, you'll design, build and deploy AI systems in real business environments, using client data and working within existing technology, security and governance requirements.

This is a hands on, client facing engineering role. You'll move beyond demos and experimentation to build reliable AI solutions that people actually use, with exposure to the full journey from technical feasibility and proof of concept through to production.

What You'll Do

• Build & Deploy AI Solutions: Design, develop and deploy LLM based and agentic AI solutions using real client data and within client environments.
• Technical Feasibility: Assess AI opportunities and determine what can realistically be built, what data and integrations are required and the technical effort involved.
• Retrieval & Integration: Build effective retrieval approaches and connect AI solutions with existing applications, data sources and business workflows.
• Evaluation & Testing: Establish baselines, develop evaluation approaches and measure performance so that improvements can be demonstrated rather than assumed.
• Production Readiness: Help move successful solutions into production with appropriate monitoring, guardrails, security considerations and fallback behaviour.
• Client Delivery: Work directly with client stakeholders to understand requirements, explain technical decisions and trade offs, and produce clear technical documentation throughout delivery.
• Judgement: Recognise what should be built as well as what can be built, and have the confidence to say when something is not feasible or not worth doing.

What We're Looking For

You’ll have 4+ years’ experience in software engineering or a related technical role, including at least 18 months’ hands on experience building LLM based systems used by real users.

You’ll bring:

• Strong Python skills and experience building production quality software.
• Hands on LLM experience, including retrieval augmented generation, tool use, agents, structured outputs and evaluation.
• Strong retrieval and integration skills, including experience with APIs, vector databases, chunking, indexing and understanding retrieval failure modes.
• Microsoft ecosystem experience, ideally including Azure OpenAI or equivalent, Microsoft Graph, SharePoint, Power Platform or Copilot Studio.
• An understanding of security, privacy and GDPR principles when working with client systems and data.
• Strong problem solving and communication skills, with the ability to work through complex technical challenges and explain technical concepts clearly to technical and non technical stakeholders.

You do not need to have worked with every technology we use. We're looking for strong engineering fundamentals, genuine applied AI experience and the curiosity to keep developing as the technology evolves. Experience in consulting, professional services or working directly with external clients would be an advantage.
