Job summary

Fruition Group Ireland seeks a Junior AI Engineer to join a growing technology and automation function. The role focuses on developing AI-enabled applications, integrations and intelligent workflows to optimise business processes.

You will design, build and test AI-powered tools, APIs and automation solutions, leveraging Python, Rust, and exposure to TypeScript/Node.js, with strong emphasis on secure integrations and documentation.

Qualifications

• Third-level degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or AI-related field.
• Strong demonstrable portfolio of technical work may be considered in lieu of degree.

My client, a professional services organisation, is seeking a Junior AI Engineer to join a growing technology and automation function, supporting the development of AI-enabled applications, integrations and intelligent workflow solutions.

Job Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and support internal AI-powered tools and workflow automations that improve business processes and reduce manual activity.
• Build and maintain APIs and integrations that enable AI models to interact securely with enterprise applications, data sources and business systems.
• Develop production-quality solutions using technologies such as Python and Rust, with exposure to TypeScript and Node.js where appropriate.
• Support the development of AI agent workflows, including prompt design, tool use, orchestration, evaluation and appropriate technical safeguards.
• Work with Microsoft technologies including Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Power Platform, Dataverse and Microsoft Graph to develop integrated automation solutions.
• Use Git and GitHub for source control, branching, pull requests, code reviews, CI/CD processes and general development collaboration.
• Produce clear technical documentation, including architecture notes, support documentation, implementation guidance and operational procedures.
• Engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand requirements, demonstrate solutions and refine applications based on user feedback.

Experience Required

• 1-3 years’ professional experience in software engineering, AI engineering, automation or a related technical area, with strong graduate, academic, personal or open-source projects also considered.
• Practical experience developing solutions using generative AI models and associated APIs rather than solely using consumer chat interfaces.
• Good understanding of AI concepts including prompting, context management, function or tool calling and the limitations of large language models.
• Working knowledge of Rust, ideally demonstrated through an academic, personal or open-source project, together with an understanding of concepts such as ownership, error handling and dependency management.
• Strong Python fundamentals and familiarity with modern Python project, environment and dependency management tools.
• Experience building or consuming REST APIs, including working with JSON, authentication mechanisms, error handling and API documentation.
• Good understanding of core software engineering practices including testing, debugging, maintainable code and version control.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to colleagues from non-technical backgrounds.
• Exposure to Model Context Protocol (MCP), AI agents or frameworks supporting multi-step tool use and workflow orchestration.
• Knowledge of Microsoft technologies such as Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI, Dataverse, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Graph or Microsoft Copilot.
• TypeScript and Node.js development experience.
• Understanding of SQL, document processing, vector databases, semantic search or Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
• Exposure to Azure services such as Functions, App Service, Key Vault or Storage.
• Familiarity with Docker, cloud deployment practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience evaluating AI applications, including logging, tracing, output quality measurement, reliability and cost monitoring.
• Awareness of data protection, confidentiality, responsible AI and regulatory considerations when developing AI-enabled systems.
• Understanding of secure software development practices including secrets management, least-privilege access, prompt-injection risks and prevention of unintended data exposure.
• Experience with workflow automation or low-code platforms would be beneficial.

Educational Requirements

• Third-level degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence or another related discipline.
• Candidates with a strong demonstrable portfolio of equivalent technical work may also be considered.
