Job summary

Igloo is seeking a principal software engineer to lead the technical design and delivery of cloud, web, and mobile software behind its property management solutions. The role focuses on architecture reviews, API contracts, and cross-functional collaboration with product and design teams.

You will mentor engineers, set CI/CD standards, and drive end-to-end quality, reliability, and performance across backend and frontend systems.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with technical leadership.
• Strong backend or full-stack depth with ability to review mobile and frontend designs.
• Experience writing and reviewing technical designs and API contracts (e.g., OpenAPI).
• Experience with CI/CD and test automation.
• Experience working with product managers and designers in scrum delivery.
• Proven record of raising engineering standards and mentoring engineers.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

ABOUT IGLOO

Igloo is a smart access control operating system built for multifamily, single family, and unmanned rental operations. THE ROLE

You will lead the technical design and delivery of the cloud, web, and mobile software behind Igloo's property management solutions, a key product for our US market. The platform serves multifamily and single family operators, connecting property managers, operators, and tenants to smart lock hardware through reliable, secure access experiences.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical design and standards

• Own architecture review and system design for the product domain
• Require end-to-end sequence diagrams, API contracts, and explicit scope for key changes, finalised before sprint planning
• Hold design reviews with backend, frontend, and QA so scope, contracts, and test approach are agreed before work is committed
• Set code review, testing, and CI/CD standards
• Align with other engineering leads on shared backend and API standards

Delivery

• Partner with Product, Design and other key stakeholders before development starts on feasibility, requirements, and estimates
• Own sprint flow, track cycle time and predictability, and elevate promptly when a sprint is at risk
• Build hardware and multi-device testing into design and the definition of done
• Provide technical readiness input for hardware gate reviews
• Identify and resolve technical debt and bottlenecks
• Collaborate with stakeholders across different locations and timezones as required

Technical mentorship

• Mentor engineers through code review, design review, and pairing

QUALIFICATIONS

• 8+ years in software engineering, including technical leadership of a team
• Strong backend or full-stack depth, with enough breadth to review mobile and frontend designs
• Experience writing and reviewing technical designs and API contracts (e.g., OpenAPI)
• Experience with CI/CD and test automation
• Experience working with product managers and designers in scrum delivery
• A record of raising engineering standards and mentoring engineers
• Strong written and spoken English
• IoT, hardware-connected, or mobile-integrated product experience is a strong plus

WORK ARRANGEMENTS

• Based in, or willing to relocate to, Bali, and available for some calls outside Bali hours.
