As technical authority for Mechanical Engineering, you will oversee HVAC, plumbing and fire protection design, mentor teams, review calculations, and coordinate with electrical, civil, architectural and BIM disciplines to defend engineering solutions

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant professional experience in engineering consultancy/building services.
• Proven experience leading Mechanical Building Services design for complex buildings.
• Strong ability to defend engineering decisions and engage clients.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall technical leadership for the Mechanical Building Services discipline.
• Lead and review Mechanical design from Concept to Construction Support.
• Provide technical direction for HVAC, air-conditioning, chilled water, ventilation and piping systems, pumps and related equipment.
• Review and approve engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, BOQs, technical reports and tender documentation.
• Lead multidisciplinary coordination with Electrical, Plumbing & Fire, Civil, Structural, Architecture and BIM teams.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring and development to engineers and BIM teams.

Job description

Meinhardt Indonesia is seeking an accomplished Technical Director – Mechanical to provide technical leadership across our Building Services engineering practice.

This is a senior leadership position for an experienced Mechanical Building Services professional with a strong career foundation in engineering consultancy and proven capability in leading the design and delivery of complex multidisciplinary projects.

The successful candidate will be expected to act as a technical authority for Mechanical Engineering, with strong expertise in HVAC systems and sufficient technical understanding of Plumbing and Fire Protection systems to lead, review, coordinate and challenge multidisciplinary MEP designs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall technical leadership for the Mechanical Building Services discipline.
• Lead and review Mechanical design from Concept, Schematic Design, Design Development, Detailed Design / DED, Tender through Construction Support.
• Provide technical direction for:
• HVAC and air-conditioning systems
• chilled water systems
• ventilation and exhaust systems
• cooling load and equipment sizing
• ductwork and piping systems
• pumps and associated mechanical equipment
• smoke control and pressurisation systems
• energy-efficient and sustainable mechanical design
• Demonstrate a sound technical understanding of Plumbing and Fire Protection systems, including water supply, sanitary drainage, pumps, tanks, hydrant, sprinkler and associated fire protection infrastructure.
• Review and approve engineering calculations, design criteria, drawings, specifications, BOQs, technical reports and tender documentation.
• Act as senior technical reviewer and ensure designs comply with applicable international and local codes, standards and engineering best practices.
• Lead multidisciplinary coordination with Electrical, Plumbing & Fire, Civil, Structural, Architecture and BIM teams.
• Provide technical solutions for complex design issues, value engineering and design optimisation.
• Lead technical meetings and presentations with clients, developers, architects, contractors and other project stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring and development to Senior Engineers, Engineers and BIM/design teams.
• Establish and maintain engineering quality, design governance, checking procedures and technical standards.
• Support project proposals, technical submissions, fee assessments, manpower planning and resource allocation.
• Contribute to client development, technical presentations and the growth of Meinhardt Indonesia's Building Services business.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant professional experience, with substantial experience gained in an Engineering Consultancy / Building Services Consultancy / Multidisciplinary Design Consultancy.
• Candidates whose careers are predominantly in contractor, facility management, maintenance, manufacturing, vendor, commissioning-only or operations environments may not align with the core requirement of this position.
• Proven experience leading Mechanical Building Services design, particularly HVAC systems for complex buildings.
• Strong hands-on technical foundation in engineering calculations, system selection, design review and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Demonstrated understanding of Plumbing and Fire Protection systems as part of integrated Building Services design.
• Strong exposure to the complete consultant design lifecycle from concept through detailed design, tender and construction support.
• Experience in complex developments such as Data Centres, commercial buildings, high-rise developments, hospitals, hotels, mixed-use developments, industrial/manufacturing facilities or other mission-critical buildings will be highly advantageous.
• Proven leadership of engineering teams and ability to act as a senior technical authority.
• Strong client-facing, presentation, negotiation and stakeholder-management capability.
• Excellent command of professional English.
• Graduates of reputable overseas universities, or candidates with significant international education or professional exposure, will be highly regarded.
• Professional Engineer registration or recognised international engineering accreditation will be advantageous.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have built their careers within established engineering consultancy environments and understand what it means to be responsible not only for delivering a design, but also for defending the engineering behind it.

The ideal candidate should be equally comfortable reviewing a complex Mechanical calculation, challenging a multidisciplinary design, mentoring engineers, presenting solutions to a client and providing technical direction at Director level.
