About the role
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Sustainability Officer to join Canggu Community School (Badung) on a full-time basis. This is a strategic position within our institution, responsible for developing, implementing, and championing comprehensive sustainability initiatives across all aspects of our school operations. The Sustainability Officer will play a crucial role in embedding environmental consciousness into our curriculum, campus management, and broader school culture. Based in Bali, this role offers the opportunity to make a tangible difference in our local environment whilst contributing to global sustainability goals.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned with the school's mission and international sustainability standards
- Coordinate environmental education programmes and integrate sustainability concepts across the curriculum
- Oversee waste management systems, recycling initiatives, and resource conservation efforts on campus
- Manage energy efficiency audits and implement measures to reduce the school's carbon footprint
- Establish and maintain relationships with local environmental organisations and community groups
- Monitor and report on key environmental performance indicators and sustainability metrics
- Lead staff training and awareness campaigns on sustainability practices and environmental responsibility
- Organise student-led environmental projects and community engagement activities
- Manage the school's gardens, green spaces, and biodiversity initiatives
- Develop partnerships with local stakeholders to support conservation efforts in Bali
- Prepare funding proposals and grant applications to support sustainability projects
- Conduct regular sustainability audits and provide recommendations for continuous improvement
What we're looking for
- A degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Earth Sciences, Geosciences, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 2-5 years of professional experience in sustainability management, environmental education, or related fields
- Demonstrated knowledge of environmental practices, climate change science, and sustainability frameworks
- Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple initiatives simultaneously
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with experience engaging diverse audiences including students, staff, and community members
- Experience developing and delivering environmental education programmes
- Proficiency with sustainability reporting tools and environmental management systems
- Knowledge of local environmental issues relevant to Bali and Indonesia is highly desirable
- Passion for environmental stewardship and a commitment to sustainable living practices
- Ability to inspire and motivate others to adopt sustainable behaviours
- Fluency in English; additional languages are an asset
