Job summary

Sandvik is seeking a Superintendent - UG Maintenance to lead safe maintenance of underground drill and utility equipment. You will supervise a large multi-disciplinary team, coordinate repairs, planning, and improvements to maximize uptime while meeting OEM requirements and safety standards.

Ideal candidates have a trade qualification in mechanical/electrical, strong leadership, excellent communication, and deep knowledge of Sandvik equipment.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in mechanical/electrical discipline with mining equipment experience.
• Knowledge of Sandvik products would be an advantage.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance, repair or replacement of underground drill and utility equipment to maximize production.
• Ensure technicians are trained, equipped and motivated to perform safely and cost-effectively.
• Supervise 3 General Foreman and 130+ technicians, coordinating with Sandvik and Getman equipment.
• Perform fault diagnosis, machinery improvements and routine planning per OEM requirements.
• Provide guidance on technical issues and organize planned maintenance to protect equipment integrity.
• Adhere to safety, environmental policies and mine regulations; manage budgets and timely paperwork.
• Report failures, warranty issues and KPI performance; ensure machine availability for production.

Job description

Sandvik is seeking applications from motivated individuals for Superintendent - UG Maintenance to join our team.

Scope

• Responsible for the safe maintenance, repair or replacement of UG Drill & Utility’s equipment and systems, to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies, goals and objectives of the company.
• Ensures that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
• Supervision of 3 General Foreman within Sandvik (Drill, HV Electrician & Utility) and more than 130 technicians
• Carry out technical fault diagnosis work and machine improvements as required on Sandvik Drills equipment and other Getman mobile equipment

Responsibilities

• Maintenance Processes
  • Monitor manpower coverage to ensure constant support for the customer.
  • Work closely with the customer maintenance and production departments in areas related to machine performance.
  • Provide reporting on component failures and warranty claims to customer.
  • Carry out ½ yearly performance reviews for underlines.
  • Provide opportunities for skill development of underlines.
  • Carry out planning of modifications and safety updates as per OEM requirements.
  • Ensure safe working in accordance with all procedures/guidelines & statutory bodies
  • High housekeeping cleanliness standard.
  • Paperwork completion on a timely basis.
  • Work closely with customers and Sandvik maintenance senior supervisors/foreman to ensure machine availability and to identify and solve problem areas.
• Provide guidance (SOP or SWI) and information regarding technical issues to customer.
• Assist in the organisation of opportune and planned maintenance to a standard that maintains the integrity of the equipment and does not compromise safe operation
• Responsible for safe work environment by contributing to Job Safety analysis, engineering technical standards, facility standards and work practices
• Performing and reviewing planned and breakdown repairs to ensure that heavy mobile equipment availability supports production requirements
• Perform Repair and fault finding using hydraulic and electrical schematics
• Monitors the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiates reordering when necessary.
• Provide relevant feedback to enable maintenance planning improvements in terms of efficiency and equipment integrity
• Work towards achieving set KPI’s
• Adhere to all P.T. Sandvik SMC and Freeport’s Policies & Procedures especially the OH&S and Environmental policies whilst also adhering to all Site policy & procedures
• Ensure adherence to Mines Regulation for all work performed
• Report unsafe facilities and practices to the Supervisor/Project Manager
• Carry out all work in accordance to set budgets and timeframes
• Complete all paperwork in a timely and accurate fashion.

Relationships and Authority

• Reports to - UG Counterpart Maintenance Project Manager
• In absence of direct supervision you will report to Project manager

Entry Qualifications and Experience

• Trade qualification in a mechanical/electrical discipline with experience in surface or underground mining/ heavy mobile earthmoving equipment essential
• Knowledge of and experience with Sandvik products will be an advantage
• Excellent communication and presentation skills would be a distinct advantage
• Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and provide helpful assistance/guidance to members of the team as required.
• Strong computer literacy is required.
• Strong leadership skills are essential

General

• Ability to work as part of an integrated broad team.
• Must be prepared to work surface or underground.
• Must be flexible, self-motivated and demonstrate initiative.
• Will be required to work surface or underground and must have an understanding of the mining industry.
• High standard of interpersonal skills is desirable.
• Rostered shift work may be required.

Your profile

• Experience in Sandvik range of equipment.
• At least 10 year’s post trade experience in Sandvik UG Drill & Getman’s Utility equipment – a distinct advantage.
• Ability to work as part of a management team.
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong focus on safety, never taking short cuts is a must.
• Strong knowledge of Quality Systems.
• Provide technical advice and procedure details to service technicians as required.
• Exposure to maintenance planning systems would be an advantage.
• A proven record in report writing skills would be beneficial.
• Understanding of Mine Health and Safety Regulations is required.
• Knowledge of and experience with Sandvik products will be an advantage.
