Job summary

PaxOcean in Batam, Indonesia seeks an Assistant Manager, Purchasing (Ship Repair/Newbuilding) to oversee daily procurement, ensuring timely materials, equipment and services for ship repair and newbuilding projects while achieving best value.

You will lead the purchasing team, develop supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards across procurement activities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of managerial experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management in a shipyard or industrial environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field; CIPS certification is a plus.
• Strong leadership, negotiation, and communication skills with in-depth knowledge of procurement, inventory control, and SCM.

Responsibilities

• Support the development and execution of the purchasing strategy for shipyard operations.
• Build and maintain relationships with suppliers to meet quality, delivery, and cost expectations.
• Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers to achieve best value while ensuring quality.
• Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams for receiving materials and forecast material needs.
• Mentor and train the purchasing team to align with goals and best practices.
• Prepare and manage department budget and identify cost-saving initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with procurement and safety processes across activities.
