Job summary

Ajaib Group is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead backend teams building reliable, scalable systems powering our fintech products.

You will pair technical judgment with people leadership to deliver high-quality software while mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years managing engineers.
• Strong backend engineering background (architecture, API design, databases, production operations).
• Experience with Java and/or Golang, including MySQL or PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architecture.

Responsibilities

• Guide backend teams to design and build scalable, secure services.
• Remain hands-on when needed, including coding and PR reviews.
• Lead production incident response with engineers to resolve issues.
• Drive architecture and system design discussions and decisions.
• Translate product priorities into engineering roadmaps and milestones.
• Mentor engineers to support professional growth and ownership.

Role Overview

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and develop backend engineering teams responsible for building and maintaining reliable, scalable, and high-quality systems that power Ajaib's financial products. You will combine technical judgment with strong people leadership to ensure your team delivers impactful solutions while maintaining high engineering standards.

Working closely with Product, Design, and other engineering stakeholders, you will translate business priorities into actionable technical plans, guide engineering execution, and foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement. You will also support your engineers' professional growth while ensuring our backend systems evolve to meet business and customer needs.

• Guide your team in designing and building scalable, secure backend services
• Stay hands-on when needed, including coding, debugging, and reviewing critical pull requests
• Step in during production incidents and work alongside your engineers to resolve them
• Take part in architecture and system design discussions, and make sound technical decisions
• Turn product and business priorities into clear engineering roadmaps and milestones
• Manage dependencies and flag delivery risks early to keep the team shipping
• Coach, mentor, and develop your engineers through regular feedback and career growth
• Build a team culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous learning
• Improve engineering processes across testing, deployment, monitoring, and incident management
• Partner with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• Proven years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years managing engineers
• Strong backend engineering background (architecture, API design, databases, production operations)
• Experience with Java and/or Golang. Including MySQL or PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka or RabbitMQ
• Understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architecture
• Experience with high-traffic systems in fintech or other complex environments
• Track record of leading projects from planning to production
• Clear communication with Product, Design, and engineering stakeholders
• Ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical audiences
• Ownership mindset and drive for continuous improvement
• Fluent English and comfort working with distributed, international teams
