Job summary

Grab is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer for Insurance in Jakarta, Indonesia. You will build scalable backend services powering Grab's insurance journeys across apps, with a focus on Golang or Java, and cloud platforms like AWS.

You'll collaborate across teams, own code quality, participate in reviews, and contribute to architecture while ensuring reliability through on-call rotations. This role emphasizes ownership, learning, and autonomy in a fast-paced fintech environment.

Qualifications

• Experience building backend services in fintech/InsurTech domains.
• Proficiency in Golang or Java and modern relational databases.
• Experience with AWS and cloud-native patterns.
• Strong CS fundamentals and knowledge of software architecture.

Get to Know the Role

You will report to the Engineering Manager, Insurance, based in Indonesia and will develop the complex backend systems powering the many end-to-end user journeys across all Insurance products available in multiple Grab apps. We're looking for candidates that embody ownership, display a hunger for learning and improvement, excel in autonomy, and have the desire to go above and beyond expectations.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• You will develop high-quality and scalable backend applications
• You will write clean, efficient, and maintainable code to solve challenging problems in the InsurTech domain
• You will collaborate with diverse teams to design, and ship new features
• You will participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and share knowledge
• Your comprehensive understanding to troubleshoot, debug complex issues, and provide quick resolutions
• You will contribute to the architectural decisions and technical direction of the projects
• You will participate in On-Call rotations to ensure the reliability of services

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• Years of relevant experience in software development, with proficiency in one of the major programming languages, e.g., Golang (preferred) and Java, relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle and code versioning systems like Git
• Computer Science fundamentals in algorithms and data structures, and capability to recognise when to use them
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, e.g., AWS
• Experience with the clean architecture principles and ability to write extensible code for complex projects following SOLID principles
• Expertise in writing clean, efficient, maintainable code and documentations
