Job summary

Grab is seeking a Lead Software Engineer for the Consumer Experience backend. This role will be based onsite in Jakarta and reports to Engineering Manager II. You will lead projects through full lifecycle, solve cross-team dependencies, and drive high-impact initiatives with Go.

You will own designs, review code, and mentor peers while ensuring scalable, reliable services that power Grab's consumer experiences and marketplace connectivity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related fields.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience in distributed systems.
• Strong CS fundamentals in algorithms and data structures.
• Understanding of system performance and scalability.
• Willingness to work with Golang.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end product lifecycle across backend services, databases, APIs and CI/CD.
• Design and implement features in Go to improve availability, scalability, latency and efficiency.
• Participate in code and design reviews to uphold high development standards.
• Contribute to capacity planning, performance analysis, tuning and optimization.
• Collaborate with product and experience teams to define feature specifications and prototypes.
• Partner with other engineering teams to create scalable architectures and designs.
• Work with infrastructure team to scale services and perform root-cause analysis.
• Design, build, analyze and fix large-scale systems.
• Participate in on-call rotations and provide technical mentorship to peers.

Get to Know the Role

We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer who can not only write high-quality code daily but also has the determination to lead projects through the full life cycle while dealing with cross-team dependencies & ambiguities. You will be reporting to Engineering Manager II. You are required to help identify problems and adopting the right mindset and skills to solve them.

This role will be based onsite in Jakarta

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• You will take ownership of a wide range of engaging problem spaces that encompass the entire product lifecycle management, including front-end development, database design and management, data visualization, building APIs, and CI/CD management, among others.
• You will design and write with the Go language to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Demand team's range of services.
• You participate in code and design reviews to maintain our high development standards.
• You will participate in service capacity and demand planning, software performance analysis, tuning, and optimization.
• You collaborate with product and experience teams to define and prototype feature specifications.
• You will partner with other engineering teams to explore and create new designs / architectures geared towards scale and performance.
• You will work with the infrastructure team in building and scaling back-end services and performing root cause analysis investigations.
• You are responsible for designing, building, analyzing, and fixing large-scale systems.
• You will participate in the team on-call rotation to help us achieve operational excellence.
• You will provide technical guidance, mentorship, and knowledge sharing to peers.

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• You have a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related fields.
• You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering in a distributed systems environment.
• You have Computer Science fundamentals in algorithms and data structures.
• You have a understanding of system performance and scaling.
• You have programming skills in any language but must be willing to work on Golang.
• You are passionate about building products, features, and platforms to accelerate business growth.
