Job summary

Ajaib Group is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer II to own shared backend services powering multiple products, from design to production. You will mentor engineers, design scalable APIs, and ensure reliability and security under real traffic.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience with ownership of production services.
• Proficiency in Java or Go.
• Strong understanding of microservices, REST/gRPC, event-driven design, reliability and observability.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, Redis, and Kafka.
• Knowledge of OAuth2/OpenID Connect/JWT and secure coding.
• Cloud experience (GCP or AWS), containers and CI/CD.
• Ownership mindset and strong communication; fintech or regulated environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and run scalable, secure shared backend services and APIs used by many product teams.
• Own larger services end to end, including monitoring, alerting, on-call follow-up and support.
• Design APIs that stay stable: contracts, versioning, backward compatibility and deprecation.
• Build and improve identity and access features, such as sign-in, sessions, tokens, permissions and account security.
• Make shared services resilient: rate limiting, graceful degradation, isolation between consumers and safe rollouts.
• Improve observability with useful metrics, logs and traces, and set service level objectives with the teams that depend on you.
• Lead design reviews and give thoughtful code reviews.
• Investigate production incidents, run root cause analysis and ship lasting fixes.
• Mentor mid-level engineers and share knowledge within the team.
• Work with product engineering teams, Security, Infrastructure and Architecture to turn requirements into reliable solutions.

Role Overview

As a Senior Backend Engineer II in the Platform team, you own shared backend services that every Ajaib product depends on, such as identity, notifications, configuration and API gateways, from design to production. You design for many users and many teams, keep services reliable and secure under real traffic, and mentor engineers around you.

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience: 5+ years of professional backend engineering, with a track record of owning production services used by other teams or high traffic.
• Languages: Strong in Java, Go or another modern backend language.
• System Design: Solid understanding of microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, event-driven design, and reliability and observability practices.
• Data & Messaging: Hands-on with relational and NoSQL databases (query tuning), caching (Redis) and messaging (Kafka).
• Security: Strong knowledge of authentication and authorization (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT) and secure coding.
• Infrastructure: Experience running services on cloud platforms (GCP or AWS), with containers and CI/CD.
• Mindset: Ownership mindset, clear communication and a service attitude toward internal users. Experience in fintech or another regulated environment is a plus.
