Job summary

RS Sedayu General Hospital in Bantul, Yogyakarta is seeking a dedicated Sanitarian to join our Environmental Engineering team on a full-time basis. You will implement and monitor sanitation protocols, manage waste disposal, ensure water quality and support infection control to maintain a safe hospital environment.

The role requires formal qualification in Environmental Health or related field, plus certification as a Sanitarian.

Qualifications

• Formal qualification in Environmental Health, Sanitation Engineering, Public Health or a related discipline.
• Professional certification as a Sanitarian or equivalent environmental health qualification.
• Minimum 3–5 years' experience in sanitation management, preferably in a healthcare setting.
• Strong knowledge of hospital waste management, water quality testing and infection prevention protocols.
• Familiarity with Indonesia environmental health regulations and standards.
• Proven ability to conduct environmental audits and implement corrective actions.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor sanitation and hygiene protocols across hospital facilities.
• Conduct regular inspections of clinical areas, kitchens, laundry facilities and waste systems.
• Manage hospital waste segregation, treatment and disposal programs per regulations.
• Test and monitor water quality from various hospital sources for safety.
• Perform risk assessments and implement measures to prevent contamination.
• Train staff on sanitation practices, waste handling and infection control.
• Prepare reports on sanitation audits and environmental monitoring.
• Collaborate with infection control teams to prevent nosocomial infections.
• Ensure compliance with local and national environmental health regulations and accreditation.
• Maintain detailed records of sanitation activities and monitoring data.

About the role

RS Sedayu General Hospital is seeking a dedicated Sanitarian to join our Environmental Engineering team on a full-time basis. Based in Bantul, Yogyakarta, this role is pivotal in ensuring our hospital maintains the highest standards of environmental health, safety and sanitation. As a Sanitarian, you will be responsible for implementing and monitoring sanitation protocols, managing waste disposal systems, water quality assurance and infection control measures. This position is essential to our mission of providing a safe, clean and healthy environment for patients, staff and visitors, whilst ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor comprehensive sanitation and hygiene protocols across all hospital facilities
• Conduct regular inspections of clinical areas, kitchens, laundry facilities and waste management systems to ensure compliance with sanitation standards
• Manage hospital waste segregation, treatment and disposal programmes in accordance with environmental and health regulations
• Test and monitor water quality from various sources within the hospital to ensure safety and compliance with drinking water standards
• Conduct risk assessments and implement control measures to prevent contamination and minimise environmental health hazards
• Train and educate hospital staff on proper sanitation practices, waste handling and infection prevention protocols
• Prepare detailed reports on sanitation audits, environmental monitoring and corrective actions taken
• Collaborate with infection control teams to maintain standards that prevent nosocomial infections
• Ensure compliance with local and national environmental health regulations and accreditation requirements
• Maintain detailed records of all sanitation activities, chemical usage and environmental monitoring data

What we're looking for

• Formal qualification in Environmental Health, Sanitation Engineering, Public Health or a related discipline
• Professional certification as a Sanitarian or equivalent environmental health qualification
• Minimum 3-5 years' experience in sanitation management, preferably within a healthcare setting
• Strong knowledge of hospital waste management systems, water quality testing and infection prevention protocols
• Familiarity with environmental health regulations and standards applicable in Indonesia
• Proficiency in conducting environmental audits and implementing corrective action plans
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to train and educate diverse groups of staff
• Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining meticulous records and documentation
• Problem-solving abilities and capacity to work independently whilst collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams
• Physical capability to conduct regular inspections and monitoring activities throughout hospital facilities
