Research and Development Specialist (Beauty / Personalcare)
Responsibilities
- Conduct market research to identify trends, product benchmarks, customer preferences, and competitive landscape in the cosmetic industry (including quality, design and pricing).
- Analyse customer feedback and sales data to gain insights for new product development opportunities.
- Responsible for developing new products for new launches and existing products, including formulation development, product validation, raw material qualification, spec preparation, and halal/BPOM registration.
- Collaborate with RND team, suppliers, and internal teams to generate innovative cosmetic product ideas and concepts and translate consumer insights and trends into actionable product features, designs and regulatory deliverables.
- Work closely with design, manufacturing, and marketing teams to align product development efforts with brand guidelines and marketing strategies.
- Coordinate product testing and prototyping activities to validate designs, functionality, and quality; gather feedback from internal stakeholders and panelists to refine product iterations.
- Formulate name, unique selling point, copy brief for packaging, product claims for product launching and conduct training to the internal team on overall product knowledge.
- Oversee quality and safety testing of products and ensure formulas are ready for mass production; conduct inspections for each batch of received products.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with local and overseas vendors, optimize formulations and improve product quality including pricing.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in R&D, preferably in health and beauty (skincare and beauty brands).
- Keeping up with market trends, both local and international, regarding products, ingredients, and consumer needs.
- Proficiency in scientific research methods, formulation development, and regulatory compliance is essential.
- In-depth understanding of skincare and cosmetic product development processes, including formulation techniques, ingredient functionality, and manufacturing methods.
- Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills required.
- Flexibility to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
