Job summary

Kuok Group Singapore seeks a Principal Engineer - Mechanical for its data centre projects in Jakarta. You will lead mechanical design, review, and construction oversight across the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment with design intent, standards, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
• 6+ years in mechanical/building services design and construction, preferably data centres.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, cooling, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• Good understanding of data centre design, CFD studies, testing, commissioning, and handover.
• Experience reviewing mechanical design, calculations, drawings, and specs.
• Familiar with ASHRAE, NFPA, TIA-942 and Indonesian requirements.
• Uptime Institute / TIA-942 certification or PE/CE preferred.

Job Summary

Principal Engineer - Mechanical will support the Project Manager by providing technical leadership and engineering oversight for K2 Strategic's data centre developments in Jakarta, Indonesia. The role will provide dedicated mechanical engineering support throughout the project lifecycle, from design development and review through construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.

The position will work closely with the Project Manager, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure mechanical works are aligned with K2's design intent, technical standards, project requirements, HSE requirements, and applicable codes and regulations. Key responsibilities include design and technical review, monitoring site execution and quality, coordinating mechanical interfaces, supporting resolution of technical issues, and identifying and mitigating project risks.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Project Manager / Delivery Manager throughout the data centre design and construction phases, providing mechanical engineering support for site management, technical coordination, construction quality control, and project delivery.
• Monitor mechanical construction activities regularly and provide technical oversight to ensure the data centre is constructed in accordance with K2 standards, approved design, project specifications, applicable codes and regulations, quality requirements, and HSE requirements.
• Review and provide technical approval/recommendation on the design consultant's mechanical deliverables, ensuring that design documents are sufficiently developed, coordinated, and supported by the necessary engineering calculations, analysis, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Coordinate closely with design consultants, contractors, specialist vendors, and other project disciplines to ensure all required mechanical design and construction deliverables are completed in accordance with the project programme and required standards.
• Maintain and enforce K2 internal engineering standards for the Mechanical discipline, including but not limited to HVAC, chilled water/cooling systems, ventilation, plumbing and drainage, fire protection systems, and other associated mechanical systems.
• Review and monitor mechanical shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, technical submissions, inspection and testing requirements, and commissioning documentation to ensure compliance with the approved design and K2 requirements.
• Provide technical support to the Project Manager / Delivery Manager in identifying, assessing, and resolving mechanical design and construction issues, including technical risks, design gaps, site constraints, and interface issues that may affect safety, quality, cost, programme, or system performance.
• Coordinate mechanical interfaces with Electrical, CSA, Structural, Architectural, ICT, and other disciplines, ensuring that mechanical systems are properly integrated into the overall data centre design and construction.
• Monitor contractor and consultant performance from a mechanical engineering perspective and provide technical recommendations and escalation to the Project Manager / Delivery Manager where issues may impact project objectives.
• Support testing, commissioning, integrated systems testing, and final handover activities, including review of commissioning procedures, test results, system performance, and outstanding mechanical issues prior to project completion.
• Support K2's internal engineering design and development activities, including review of design concepts, technical standards, specifications, engineering solutions, and constructability for current and future data centre projects.
• Establish, review, and maintain engineering and operational procedures, guidelines, and technical standards in accordance with K2 requirements and lessons learned from project delivery.
• Capture and communicate lessons learned and technical improvements from project execution to strengthen K2's engineering standards, design approach, construction methodology, and future project delivery.
• Support the Project Manager / Delivery Manager in technical reviews, project meetings, site inspections, design coordination meetings, and progress reviews as required.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or instructed by the Project Manager / Delivery Manager or Management.

Key Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in mechanical/building services design and construction, preferably with data centre project experience.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, cooling, plumbing, and fire protection systems, with good understanding of data centre mechanical systems.
• Good understanding of data centre design, CFD studies, testing, commissioning, and handover.
• Experience in reviewing mechanical design, calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical submissions.
• Good knowledge of relevant local and international standards, including ASHRAE, NFPA, TIA-942, and applicable Indonesian requirements.
• Experience working with consultants, contractors, and specialist vendors, with good technical coordination and problem-solving skills.
• Uptime Institute / TIA-942 certification or relevant training is preferred.
• Chartered Engineer / Professional Engineer qualification is preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with mechanical engineering software such as IES, HAP, Revit, or AutoCAD.
• Good written and spoken English with strong communication skills.
