Job summary

AFRY is seeking a Power Systems Engineer to join our Asia-Pacific T&D team in Jakarta. You will conduct steady-state and RMS studies for generation interconnection projects and transmission planning across Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Australia, collaborating with international clients and utilities.

The role requires 2–5 years of relevant experience, strong Python scripting with DigSILENT PowerFactory, and knowledge of IEC/IEEE standards; travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems or related field).
  • 2-5 years of relevant working experience in power system modeling and analysis for grid connections and transmission projects.
  • Experience with steady-state, short-circuit and dynamic studies; familiarity with EMT, protective coordination is a plus.
  • Proven knowledge of power system simulation software DigSILENT PowerFactory; Python scripting advantageous.
  • Experience with cross-border interconnection projects and knowledge of Indonesian/Malaysian grids is beneficial.
  • English communication skills; PE certification is an advantage but not required.

Job Description

Our T&D Power Systems team assists clients in achieving compliance and efficiency by
conducting power systems studies to navigate the design, grid connection and access standards
for their energy generation and transmission projects. You will become part of a global, tight-knit
team of power systems engineers engaged in diverse projects supporting multiple type of
international interconnection and grid connection projects (including solar, wind, hydro, battery
energy storage, and HVDC interconnectors).

Our team also provides technical assistance to Transmission Grid Operators (TSOs) and utilities,
helping the private sector secure crucial grid investments through expert technical support. This
role offers a unique opportunity to develop your career and play a pivotal role in expanding and
shaping our business across Asia for a multinational company, while supporting clients not only
in Indonesia, Asia but also in Australia, Europe, and Africa.

Responsibility:

  • Conduct advanced power system studies (steady-state load flow, short-circuit, anddynamic stability analyses) for generation grid connection projects and transmissionplanning studies (feasibility and design stages). Projects will be primarily across Asia-Pacific, but also in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Australia.
  • Perform power system modelling and analysis for generation grid connection studies,including solar, wind, hydro, thermal and energy storage systems.
  • Prepare comprehensive study reports, ranging from connection feasibility studies forenergy developers to detailed static and dynamic connection studies for utilities, as wellas other power systems studies related to distributed generation integration and gridaugmentation.
  • Deliver high-quality outputs within agreed parameters, formats, and timelines, andreview the work of other employees when necessary.
  • Conduct complex assessments, provide specialist advice/solutions and training,conduct technical presentations to internal and external clients.
  • Engage in technical developmental activities, including attending conferences andparticipating in industry presentations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems or related field).
  • Having 2-5 years of relevant working experience in power system modeling and analysisfor grid connections and transmission projects. This should include hands‑on experiencewith generation interconnection feasibility studies, transmission planning, and networkstability assessments, ideally in a utility/TSO or power engineering consultancyenvironment.
  • Proven knowledge and experience on performing complex transmission power systemstudies such as: steady state analysis, short circuit analysis, transient stability analysis,generator model validation. Any additional experience on the following fields is beneficial:electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulations, cable design, protection coordination andrelay settings studies, harmonic analysis, small signal stability, adequacy studies andprobabilistic approaches.
  • Demonstrated experience in power system simulation software DigSILENT PowerFactory, including automation with Python scripting. Any additional proven capabilitiesin other power system studies tools such as Siemens PSS/E, PSCAD, ETAP etc. isbeneficial.
  • Experience working closely with or within transmission utilities/TSOs on interconnectionprojects or advanced grid studies (e.g. cross-border interconnectors, renewable energyintegration, large-scale battery storage projects).
  • Having experience and knowledge of the Indonesian or Malaysian Power Systembackground and stakeholders is beneficial.
  • Familiar with international and local grid codes and standards (e.g. IEC, IEEE) relevant totransmission planning and grid connection requirements, with a good understanding ofboth technical connection requirements (e.g. voltage, frequency, fault ride-through,reactive power, and power quality) and operational requirements of the power system andgrid operation.Ability to manage tasks effectively under time and resource constraints,delivering results with good quality even under pressure.
  • Excellent analytical problem-solving skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken), as this role involves liaisingwith international teams and clients.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification or equivalent credentials in any of the above-mentioned countries is an advantage (but not required).
