Job summary

DayOne Data Center in Batam seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer to oversee the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of critical mechanical systems in our data centres, and to lead a team of assistant facilities engineers and technicians.

You will ensure 24/7 coverage, uphold health and safety standards, and contribute to strategic initiatives with strong problem-solving and collaboration skills; PE certification is highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
• 3–5 years of mechanical engineering experience in data-centre environments.
• Strong knowledge of data centre mechanical infrastructure (HVAC, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, compressors).
• Experience leading technical teams and 24/7 operations.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills; PE or similar certifications are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Oversee design, installation, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems in data centres

Plan and oversee preventative and corrective maintenance activities, ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, and provide technical expertise for mechanical systems.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems within the data centres
• Ensure all mechanical infrastructure, including HVAC systems, chillers, cooling towers, and pumps operates reliably and efficiently
• Implement and maintain mechanical safety policies, procedures, and best practices
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of assistant facilities engineers and technicians
• Coordinate with shift teams to ensure seamless 24/7 coverage and effective handovers between shifts
• Plan and oversee preventative and corrective maintenance activities
• Coordinate with vendors and contractors for mechanical maintenance and upgrade projects
• Ensure all mechanical operations comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulationsProvide technical expertise and support for mechanical systems, including troubleshooting and resolving mechanical issues
• Support the Mechanical Engineering Manager and Critical Services Manager in developing and implementing strategic initiatives

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mechanical engineering
• Strong knowledge of data centre mechanical infrastructure, including HVAC, chillers, cooling towers, pumps and compressors
• Proven experience in managing technical teams and 24/7 operations
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage complex mechanical challenges
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
• Certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) or similar are highly desirable
