Job summary

BYD Indonesia seeks an early-career Legal Officer to support day-to-day legal and regulatory activities. The role involves drafting and reviewing contracts, legal research, and maintaining corporate documentation within the fast-growing automotive and EV sector.

You will work closely with internal stakeholders across commercial and operations, providing practical legal guidance. Fresh graduates are welcome; Mandarin is a plus for this expanding regional team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Law is required or soon-to-be graduates.
• Strong understanding of Indonesian contract, corporate, and commercial law.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Indonesian; Mandarin is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and revise commercial contracts and legal documents.
• Provide legal support for procurement, vendor, marketing, and operations.
• Conduct legal research on Indonesian corporate, commercial, automotive, and data privacy laws.
• Monitor regulatory developments and assess impact on operations.
• Support corporate and regulatory matters including licenses, submissions, and reporting.
• Prepare initial legal reviews and risk assessments for internal stakeholders.
• Coordinate with external counsel for disputes and regulatory inquiries.

The Legal Officer will support BYD Indonesia’s day-to-day legal and regulatory activities, including contract drafting and review, legal research, corporate documentation, regulatory compliance, and legal risk assessment.

This position will work closely with various internal stakeholders to provide practical legal support for commercial and operational activities. The role is suitable for an early-career legal professional who is eager to develop strong corporate legal experience within the fast-growing automotive and electric vehicle industry.

Job Description

• Assist in drafting, reviewing, and revising commercial contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
• Provide legal support for procurement, vendor, marketing, dealer, aftersales, IT, and other business-related matters.
• Conduct legal research on Indonesian corporate, commercial, automotive, EV, consumer protection, and data privacy regulations.
• Monitor regulatory developments and assess their potential impact on the company’s operations.
• Support corporate and regulatory matters, including licenses, submissions, reporting, and corporate documentation.
• Prepare initial legal reviews, risk assessments, and practical recommendations for internal stakeholders.
• Support customer-related legal matters, regulatory inquiries, disputes, and coordination with external legal counsel.
• Maintain contract trackers, legal records, corporate documents, and coordinate with BYD Regional or HQ Legal teams when required.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Law; fresh graduates and final-year students who have completed all coursework are welcome to apply.
• Good understanding of Indonesian contract, corporate, and commercial law.
• Strong legal research, analytical, contract drafting, and document review skills.
• Good written and spoken English and Indonesian; Mandarin proficiency is an advantage.
• Strong interest in the automotive and electric vehicle industry and its regulatory environment.
• Able to communicate legal issues clearly and practically to non-legal stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented, organized, responsive, and able to manage multiple assignments within deadlines.
• Previous internship or work experience in a law firm, corporate legal team, government institution, or automotive company is an advantage.

About the Legal Team

The Legal Team at BYD Indonesia supports the company’s rapidly growing automotive and electric vehicle business by providing practical, business-oriented legal advice across multiple functions. The team works closely with commercial, procurement, sales, dealer network, marketing, aftersales, IT, finance, HR, and other departments, while coordinating with BYD Regional and Headquarters Legal teams.

The team is responsible for contract management, corporate and regulatory compliance, legal research, risk assessment, dispute support, and ensuring that business activities are conducted in accordance with applicable Indonesian laws and regulations.
