Job summary

British American Tobacco Malaysia is seeking a Junior Analytical Scientist in Malang, Indonesia, to plan, perform, and report routine analytical testing following established methodologies and laboratory standards.

You will develop and validate methods (ISO 17025), generate high-quality data, and collaborate with cross-functional teams while maintaining quality systems and EH&S compliance. This position offers growth in a transforming lab environment with access to learning platforms.

Qualifications

  • Plan, perform, and report routine analytical testing using agreed methodologies, equipment, and laboratory standards.
  • Develop, validate, and implement analytical methods, including ISO 17025 validation, for metals, carbonyls, TSNAs, and other analytical techniques.
  • Generate high-quality analytical data that meets laboratory quality standards, RDRT requirements, and business needs while supporting digital ways of working.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams and internal and third‑party technical experts to deliver projects, solve analytical challenges, and share scientific expertise.
  • Plan and coordinate analytical activities, manage project priorities, and contribute to continuous improvement across laboratory operations.
  • Maintain laboratory quality management systems, meet EH&S requirements, prepare R&S reports, publications, and presentations, and stay informed of advances in analytical science and competitor activities.

  • Develop, validate, and implement analytical methods, including ISO 17025 validation, for metals, carbonyls, TSNAs, and other analytical techniques that support research and product innovation.
  • Generate high-quality analytical data that meets laboratory quality standards, RDRT requirements, and business needs while supporting digital ways of working.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams and internal and third‑party technical experts to deliver projects, solve analytical challenges, and share scientific expertise.
  • Plan and coordinate analytical activities, manage project priorities, and contribute to continuous improvement across laboratory operations.
  • Maintain laboratory quality management systems, meet EH&S requirements, prepare R&S reports, publications, and presentations, and stay informed of advances in analytical science and competitor activities.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific field, together with practical experience in an analytical laboratory environment.
  • Experience operating analytical instrumentation, including GC‑FID, HPLC, and LC‑MS/MS, with knowledge of analytical method development, validation, and data interpretation.
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025 and/or GxP‑regulated laboratory environments, including laboratory quality systems, governance, and data integrity standards.
  • Experience using LIMS and data analytics or informatics tools to manage, analyse, and report laboratory data accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work collaboratively across teams, and communicate complex scientific information clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing technical reports, scientific publications, and presentations. Intermediate English proficiency is required, together with a willingness to learn and develop new analytical capabilities.
