Position Summary
We are seeking a senior, commercially minded General Counsel to serve as the definitive legal and compliance lead for our local operations. This is a strategic leadership role designed to provide the entity with sufficiently senior, reliable, and independent legal oversight, addressing current gaps in legal and compliance coverage. You will act as a trusted advisor to local leadership, ensuring the business operates within the full scope of applicable local and international regulatory frameworks while enabling commercial growth. The role requires a seasoned legal professional who can operate autonomously, manage complex regulatory environments, and serve as the critical bridge between local operations and Group Compliance.
Reporting Structure
- Dual Reporting Line: Local President Director / Country Head, and Group Compliance
- Team: Local Legal & Compliance function, with access to Group Legal and Compliance resources
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Advisory & Business Partnership:
- Provide timely, commercially pragmatic legal advice and support across all day-to-day business operations within the financial services and brokerage environment.
- Partner closely with internal stakeholders across business, operations, finance, and marketing to support commercial activities while minimizing legal and regulatory risk.
- Identify potential legal risks proactively and deliver practical, actionable recommendations that enable informed business decision-making.
Contract & Documentation Management:
- Review, draft, negotiate, and manage a wide range of contracts, agreements, and legal documents, including commercial agreements, vendor contracts, partnership arrangements, and client-facing terms.
- Handle corporate legal documentation, permits, licenses, and other legal administrative requirements to ensure the entity remains fully authorized to operate.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve legal policies, procedures, and standard documentation templates.
Regulatory Compliance & Governance:
- Ensure full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, licensing requirements, and internal policies across all business activities.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments within the financial services sector, assessing their impact on the business and providing timely, structured updates to management.
- Serve as the primary interface with regulators and government authorities, managing filings, submissions, and regulatory engagements as required.
- Coordinate with Group Compliance to ensure alignment with global standards while meeting local regulatory obligations.
Risk Management & Dispute Resolution:
- Support the management and resolution of legal disputes, claims, investigations, and other contentious matters.
- Manage relationships with external legal counsel, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality legal support when required.
- Maintain robust legal risk frameworks and elevate material risks to both local leadership and Group Compliance in a timely manner.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Act as the senior legal voice within the local organization, building legal awareness and compliance culture across all departments.
- Coordinate with external counsel, government authorities, regulators, and other relevant parties as needed.
- Provide guidance and oversight to ensure that local legal and compliance practices remain consistent with Group policies and standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized institution; a Master's degree or professional legal qualification is a strong advantage.
- Minimum of 5-8 years of progressive legal experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead counsel capacity. Experience in financial services, brokerage, fintech, or other regulated industries is strongly preferred.
- Solid working knowledge of corporate law, commercial agreements, licensing, regulatory compliance, and financial services regulations, with specific familiarity with the local regulatory landscape.
- Demonstrated ability to draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documents with precision in both Bahasa Indonesia and English.
- Proven capacity to work independently, manage multiple legal matters simultaneously, and operate with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Full professional fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory. Mandarin speaking ability is highly preferred given the Group's international operating structure.
- Must have the legal right to work in the country where the position is based.
- Commercial Judgment: Balances legal rigor with practical business solutions; understands that legal is an enabler of growth, not solely a gatekeeper.
- Autonomy & Ownership: Confident, self-directed professional capable of acting as the sole senior legal authority locally while maintaining strong Group alignment.
- Analytical Rigor: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to distill complex regulatory issues into clear, actionable guidance.
- Communication & Influence: Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills, able to communicate persuasively with senior executives, regulators, and cross-cultural teams.
- Integrity & Discretion: Impeccable professional ethics and the ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive matters with absolute discretion.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous and thorough, with a strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
What We Offer
- A senior leadership role as the definitive legal and compliance authority for a key operating entity within a global brokerage group.
- Direct access and visibility to both local executive leadership and Group Compliance, with genuine influence over business strategy and governance.
- The opportunity to build and shape the legal and compliance function, establishing frameworks that will support long-term sustainable growth.
- A collaborative, international working environment with exposure to cross-border legal and regulatory matters.
- Competitive executive compensation package, commensurate with seniority and experience.
