Job summary

Pencil is seeking a Head of Agent Architecture to design and own the technical vision for its GenAI-driven agent layer. You will lead a small, high‑impact team, shape reusable agent patterns, and partner with AI Eng, Product, and Sales to balance prompting, RAG, and fine-tuning.

You’ll personally tackle the hardest architectural problems while scaling the function and communicating complex trade‑offs to executives.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of Direct GenAI experience with leadership or ownership of a function.
• Systems thinking: latent space, context window, and how outputs become inputs.
• Technical literacy: Python, JSON structures, API docs; orchestration patterns matter.
• Experience in discovery with senior customers or stakeholders.
• Ability to explain complex technical decisions in plain language.
• Proven track record of guiding architecture strategy and roadmaps.

Responsibilities

• Define Pencil’s technical vision for agent architecture, including multi-agent workflows and tool-use.
• Build and mentor a small team of Agent Architects and set technical standards.
• Develop evaluation frameworks to measure agent performance and reliability.
• Own reusable agents and prompt libraries to scale for many brands.
• Collaborate with AI Eng, Product, and Sales to decide prompting vs RAG vs fine-tuning.
• Lead client engagements and translate client problems into buildable agent workflows.
