Job summary

Ulu Cliffhouse in Bali is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead and oversee all engineering and maintenance operations at our clifftop luxury property. You will ensure safety, facility integrity, and high service standards across mechanical, electrical, and climate control systems.

The role requires a proven track record in senior facilities leadership, strong budgeting and vendor management, and the ability to drive energy efficiency and sustainable practices across the estate.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in engineering or facilities management with 5+ years in Chief Engineer or senior leadership.
• Expertise in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and renewable energy systems.
• Thorough knowledge of Balinese building codes and Indonesian safety regulations.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and develop technical teams.
• Strong problem-solving skills and multi-project management.
• Proficiency in maintenance management software and building automation.
• Fluent English; Indonesian language skills are advantageous.
• Engineering or facilities management certification.
• Experience in luxury hospitality or resort management.
• Budget management and cost control proven track record.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and climate control systems.
• Lead and manage the maintenance team, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation.
• Develop and implement preventative and corrective maintenance programmes to ensure optimal performance of all building systems.
• Ensure full compliance with local building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
• Conduct regular inspections of facilities and equipment to identify potential issues before they escalated.
• Manage maintenance budgets, procurement of equipment and materials, and vendor relationships.
• Respond promptly to emergency maintenance situations and implement effective solutions.
• Coordinate with other departments to support guest services and operational requirements.
• Maintain comprehensive records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and system upgrades.
• Implement energy efficiency initiatives and sustainability practices across the property.

This is a contract position that offers an exciting opportunity to lead and oversee all engineering and maintenance operations at our luxury hospitality venue. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of facility management, safety, and operational excellence across all technical systems and infrastructure. What you'll be doing

What we're looking for

• Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering or facilities management, with at least 5 years in a Chief Engineer or senior leadership role
• Proven expertise in building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and renewable energy solutions
• Strong knowledge of local Balinese building codes and Indonesian safety regulations
• Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop technical teams
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Proficiency in maintenance management software and building automation systems
• Strong communication skills in English; proficiency in Indonesian is advantageous
• Certification or qualification in engineering, facilities management, or a related discipline
• Experience in luxury hospitality or resort management is highly desirable
• Proven track record in budget management and cost control
• Knowledge of sustainability practices and energy management systems
