Job summary

VoiceDawn is seeking an AI Engineer (Junior–Mid) to join a small AI‑first team and work directly with the founders. All code is AI‑written, so you’ll guide AI outputs, understand what is produced, and own the quality of the result while starting with guided tasks.

You’ll analyze call transcripts, improve prompts and tools, build on an AWS serverless stack using Claude Code and Codex, and help develop internal AI agents for support and configuration.

AI Engineer (Junior-Mid) for our partner VoiceDawn

VoiceDawn builds AI voice agents that answer the phone for hotels, with restaurants next. Our agents handle guest calls around the clock. They answer questions about the property, take requests like housekeeping and room service, book restaurant tables, and transfer callers to the right staff member with a summary of the call.

The agents plug into each hotel's existing phone system and connect to the operations and booking systems hotels already use. Hotels and our partners manage everything through our platform and API, including knowledge, voices, languages, call routing and analytics.

Current stage: Live in hotels and expanding quickly.

Vision: To be the AI voice of the majority of Australian hotels, then grow internationally and expand into restaurants.

Tech stack: AWS serverless (Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, Step Functions), ElevenLabs Conversational AI, SIP and Twilio telephony, LLM APIs. All our code is written with Claude Code and Codex.

The role

You'll join a small, AI-first team and work directly with the founders. All our code is written by AI, so this role is about directing AI well, understanding what it produces and owning the quality of the result. You'll be guided through our setup and start with allocated tasks. As you grow, we want you to take initiative: spot problems, suggest improvements and see them through.

Key responsibilities:

• Analyse call transcripts and analytics to find where our voice agents misunderstand callers, give wrong answers or fail to transfer, then fix the cause
• Improve agent prompts, knowledge and tools, and test changes before they reach live hotels
• Build and improve features on our AWS serverless platform using Claude Code and Codex
• Build internal AI agents that automate support, app configuration and customer queries
• Investigate and resolve issues, and handle client requests with guidance from the team
• Own quality: check that what ships actually works for hotel guests and staff
• Keep documentation, test results and release notes clear and current

Required skills and experience

Must have:

• Excellent written and spoken English. You'll be analysing call transcripts and working closely with our Australian team.
• Hands-on use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or similar), and comfort letting AI write the code
• Some experience building with AI: LLM APIs, prompt engineering, chatbots or agents.
• Experience with AWS, including serverless services such as Lambda and DynamoDB.
• Strong problem-solving and attention to detail. You check that things actually work.
• Git and collaborative development workflows

Highly desirable:

• ElevenLabs, especially Conversational AI voice agents (a big bonus)
• Twilio, SIP or other telephony and VoIP experience
• Building AI agents that automate business processes such as support, configuration or data queries
• TypeScript and Node.js. Preferred, but not essential, as all our code is AI-written.
• Other AWS services: API Gateway, Step Functions, SQS, CloudWatch, Serverless Framework
• Evaluating AI output quality, for example with test sets, transcript reviews or scoring
• Hospitality or restaurant industry experience
• Startup experience or working in fast-paced, changing environments
• CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions

AI-first: We build everything with Claude Code and Codex. You'll get all the AI access you need, and an AI training course when you start.

Working environment:

• 100% remote, working your normal local hours
• Guided onboarding into our setup, then allocated tasks to work through
• You'll handle guest call data and client information, so a confidentiality agreement (NDA) is required
