Job Summary
TechSource Systems, an authorised distributor of MathWorks products in Southeast Asia, is seeking an Account Manager to grow its commercial and government business in Indonesia. Based in Jakarta and reporting to the Regional Sales Manager, ASEAN, you will develop new accounts and expand adoption of MATLAB, Simulink and related services. This is a senior individual-contributor role focused primarily on new business development rather than renewals.
Your primary focus is to build business across Indonesia’s state-owned enterprises, defence industry, government agencies and national research agencies, and private sector. You will combine consultative selling with technical engagement.
Responsibilities
- Build and execute territory and account plans, prioritising state-owned enterprises and defence-industry accounts, followed by national research agencies, and selected private-sector opportunities.
- Open new accounts through proactive, in-person prospecting, referrals, professional networks and engineering events; identify engineering teams, decision-makers and budget holders rather than relying on inbound leads.
- Lead technical discovery and initial demonstrations independently, identify customer needs in areas such as control design, power-system studies, signal processing, test data analysis and predictive maintenance, and present relevant technical and business value propositions.
- Develop strategic relationships with the national research agencies; build support for agency-level agreements, and convert seminars and workshops into qualified opportunities.
- Navigate enterprise and public procurement, including vendor registration, e-katalog, tender and direct-award routes and approval processes; align account activities and proposals with customers’ fiscal-year budget cycles.
- Develop qualified private-sector accounts in automotive and EV batteries, electronics, mining and process industries, telecommunications and financial services, passing transactional enquiries to inside sales.
- Support the selection and onboarding of an Indonesian government-procurement channel partner, with TechSource and MathWorks approval, and manage joint opportunities, tender responses and the partner’s CRM pipeline.
- Maintain accurate pipeline records and forecasts in Dynamics 365, prepare clear proposals, and achieve agreed territory-development milestones and revenue targets.
- Collaborate with regional application engineers, inside sales and the MathWorks account team on trials, proofs of concept, workshops and joint account reviews; share customer feedback on procurement barriers, pricing, licensing and workflow needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, such as electrical, mechanical, aerospace or control engineering, or a quantitative science.
- At least 5 years of sales experience selling engineering software, test and measurement, automation or simulation products to Indonesian state-owned enterprises, defence-industry organisations or government agencies.
- Working knowledge of Indonesian public procurement, including e-katalog, tenders, vendor registration and fiscal-year budget cycles, with experience closing government business through a local partner or reseller.
- A proven record of opening new accounts through outbound prospecting and building relationships with engineering stakeholders and budget holders.
- Technical knowledge sufficient to lead engineering discovery and initial product demonstrations independently, with sound judgement on when to engage specialists.
- Fluent Bahasa Indonesia and working English, with the ability to communicate confidently in formal enterprise and government settings and prepare clear written proposals.
- Strong territory and account planning skills, disciplined CRM use and accurate sales forecasting.
- Based in Jakarta and able to travel regularly within Indonesia and occasionally to Singapore and Malaysia.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on MATLAB and/or Simulink experience gained through coursework, research or industry.
- An engineering background in a state-owned enterprise or defence company before moving into sales.
- Existing professional relationships with technical government agencies.
- Experience managing a channel partner’s sales pipeline and forecast.
- MathWorks certification or project experience in Model-Based Design, power-system analysis or data analytics workflows.
