Morgan Stanley seeks a senior software leader to advance the commodities trading platforms across front-to-back lifecycle management. You will drive ideas, analyze complex data for stakeholders, and contribute hands-on coding in Scala/Java for multi-threaded, distributed systems.

Experience with derivatives risk, PV/Greeks, and pricing models for futures, swaps and options is essential. Strong cross‑team collaboration and cloud deployment skills are required.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant IT experience expected for this senior role.
• Server-side Scala development with distributed caching experience.
• Experience in cloud deployments and microservices architecture.

The global Commodities Trading Systems team is responsible for developing technology solutions supporting the commodities trading business from front to back through the derivatives’ entire lifecycle.

The trading system covers multiple commodities business lines including Oil liquids, Natural Gas, Electricity, Metals, Agricultures and Index etc. In terms of the trade types, it handles lifecycle for futures, swaps, basis swaps, various Options, OTC derivatives, exotic trades and physical forwards trades.

The derivative risk valuation systems involve trade modeling the OTC and Listed Commodities derivatives such as futures, listed option, OTC vanilla swaps, repo, physical forwards, basis swaps, and various types of OTC vanilla option and exotic options, corresponding pricing and valuation model in order to value Greeks and PnL for different financial and physical instruments of commodities derivatives.

What you’ll do in the role:

• Lead the development of new ideas and/or policies in own area.
• Analyze multiple sets of information to create summaries for various stakeholders.
• Hands-on coding in Scala multi-threaded applications and distributed systems
• Experienced with Commodities Derivatives Risk calculation on PV, Greeks, risk aggregation, risk hedging across different asset classes such as Oil, Natural Gas, Metals
• Experienced in sales and trade workflow, trade modeling, e.g., quote and price modeling on instruments such as Futures, European Options, Averaged Pricing Options, Swaps, basis Swaps etc
• Experience with cloud deployment, familiar with Kafka or MQ messaging technics
• Experience working on non-SQL database
• Experienced with mono-repo, reference transparent, react programming and graph calculation
• Excellent written and communication skills
• Interest in learning the financial knowledge, particularly about commodities trading.
• Self-motivated, quick-learning and comfortable with working in a global team
• Hands-on coding in Java multi-threaded applications and distributed systems

What you’ll bring to the role:

• Experience in executing IT strategy, delivery and complex initiatives.
• Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner to technology and business leadership.
• Advanced understanding of functional area and competent understanding of competitive environment.
• Experience in server-side Scala development with distributed caching
• Micro-services development and deployment in cloud environment
• Good System Design and Architecture Skills
• Comfortable dealing with ambiguities and working out technology solutions for the business
• At least 8 years’ relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role,
