Job summary

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) invites a senior leader to join the Data Business department to shape the index product strategy and drive multi-asset index initiatives across markets. The role requires coordinating across IT, Product, Sales and Operations to deliver differentiating index products aligned with HKEX's broader strategy.

The successful candidate will have 10+ years in financial markets, strong programming/data skills, and proven project leadership, with the HKEX

Qualifications

• Relevant university degree or equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience in financial markets, preferably in index/ETF or quantitative research.
• Deep understanding of programming languages and tools; experience with third-party vendor products.
• Exposure to Hong Kong, China and APAC financial markets; good understanding of investment strategies and portfolio construction.
• Research and/or product development experience.
• Entrepreneurial, self-starter mindset with high agility.
• Strong analytical, collaboration, interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Responsibilities

• Lead quantitative research and development of new indices for benchmarks and investible products across multi-asset classes.
• Back test and evaluate new models and ideas; conduct deep-dive performance/ market/sector/scenario analyses.
• Drive automation of workflows and data integration to enhance research capabilities; oversee index build efforts.
• Lead activities across new product lifecycle to ensure timely launches of new indices and create market intelligence content.
• Understand client needs, trends and industry practices to design methodology and indices clients will value.
• Assess potential partners and strategic engagements; maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Promote new capabilities across asset classes and as they are developed.
• Create presentations and papers to gain support and investment in product initiatives.
• Collaborate across IT, Product, Sales and Operations.

Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Data Business department and play a significant role in shaping the index product, a growth business within the group. This newly formed team will be responsible for delivering differentiating index products that align with the strategy of the business and the exchange as a whole. We are looking for a high caliber and motivated individual to join our team with responsibility spanning across strategy execution and project implementation.

Responsibilities

• Lead quantitative research and development of new indices for benchmarks and investible products, across multi-asset classes including equities, equity derivatives, FIC, and virtual assets.
• Back test and evaluate new models and ideas, conduct deep‑div performance/ market/sector/scenario analysis, present findings to senior management and clients.
• Drive automation of workflows and data integration to enhance research capabilities. Oversee index build efforts, coordinating across multiple teams and vendors.
• Lead activities and required tasks across new product lifecycle to ensure the smooth and timely launch of new indices, create content and provide market intelligence.
• Possess a deep understanding of the competitive landscape, understand client needs, current trends and best industry practice to design methodology and indices client will use and value.
• Assess potential partners and strategic engagements. Maintain strong relationships and serve as liaison with both internal and external stakeholders, partners and clients.
• Promote any new capabilities across asset classes and new capabilities as they are developed.
• Create presentations and papers using excellent communication skills to gain support and investment in product initiatives.
• Leverage strengths as a team player to collaborate across various functions including IT, Product, Sales and Operations.

Requirements

• Relevant university degree or equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience in financial markets, experience from Index/ETF businesses, asset management or quantitative research is preferable.
• Demonstrate deep understanding of relevant programming languages and tools, third party vendor products.
• Exposure on Hong Kong, China and APAC financial market, good understanding of investment strategies and portfolio construction.
• Research and/or Product Development experience.
• A self‑starter with an entrepreneurial and innovative mindset and high agility.
• Strong analytical, collaboration, interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
