You will create SOPs, manuals, videos, and assessments; supervise junior staff; and ensure safety, welfare, and regulatory compliance while advancing animal-care skills across multiple roles including CS, Homing

Qualifications

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in veterinary nursing.
  • Experience in training, mentoring, or supervising junior staff will be an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of small animal clinical procedures, anaesthesia, diagnostics, and patient care.
  • Clinical expertise in general practice nursing and patient care.
  • Instructional design for practical, competency‑based training.
  • Good presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Coaching and mentorship with clear communication and patience.
  • Assessment literacy for evaluating skills and knowledge.
  • Safety leadership and risk management.
  • Professionalism and ethical decision‑making.
  • Organisational skills for managing multiple trainees and clinics.
  • On site work in SPCA veterinary clinics / hospitals, and / or training centres is required.
  • Physical work involving animal handling, lifting, and clinical procedures.
  • Travel between clinic locations if supporting multiple sites is required.

Responsibilities

  • Create weekly modules, skill checklists, and competency milestones.
  • Design hands-on learning activities aligned with clinic workflows and case types.
  • Produce training materials such as SOPs, manuals, videos, and assessment tools.
  • Provide on-site coaching in animal handling, clinical nursing, diagnostics, surgical support, and patient care.
  • Conduct skills labs, simulations, and supervised practice sessions.
  • Ensure trainees follow low-stress handling and welfare-first practices.
  • Develop and administer competency assessments (skill sign offs).
  • Evaluate trainee performance and provide structured feedback.
  • Identify learning gaps and implement remediation plans.
  • Audit training quality, safety compliance, and documentation standards.
  • Establish and enforce safety protocols for animal handling, sharps, chemicals, radiology, and infection control.
  • Ensure training activities comply with local veterinary regulations and clinic policies.
  • Promote a culture of safety, welfare, and professionalism.
  • Train clinic mentors and supervisors.
  • Facilitate communication between trainees, mentors, and veterinary surgeons.
  • Advise clinic leadership on training capacity, workflow integration, and resource planning.
  • Train CS staff on welfare knowledge, triage questioning, client communication, and service flow.
  • Train Homing Assistants on behaviour assessment, adoption counselling, animal handling, and welfare monitoring.
  • Train Inspectors on triage, animal first aid, monitoring vital signs.
