The role requires collaboration with Co-Teachers and EAL specialists, use of WIDA frameworks, and a commitment to inquiry-based, student-centered learning within our dual-language community.
Dalton School Hong Kong is a progressive, child-centered school dedicated to fostering dual-language proficiency, inquiry-based learning, and global agency. We empower students to become independent thinkers and compassionate leaders through a rich, tailored educational experience.
We are seeking an inspiring, dedicated, and skilled Supply English Homeroom Teacher to join our Primary Faculty.
In this role, you will lead a primary homeroom, cultivating a warm, language-rich, and inquiry-driven classroom environment. As our vibrant student community includes emergent English language learners, we are looking for a homeroom educator who brings a strong background in literacy instruction alongside deep expertise in EAL pedagogy.
If you are passionate about scaffolded literacy, student agency, and helping non-native English speakers thrive academically and socially, we would love to hear from you.
Homeroom Leadership: Lead daily homeroom routines, pastoral care, and positive classroom culture in alignment with Dalton values.
Literacy & EAL Instruction: Deliver engaging, high-quality English literacy lessons, embedding targeted EAL strategies (push-in, differentiation, and small-group support) to boost language acquisition.
Assessment & Monitoring: Conduct formative/summative literacy assessments and lead WIDA evaluations to track progress, inform teaching, and set tailored learning goals.
Curriculum Design & Collaboration: Adapt and scaffold English learning materials to make core content accessible to emergent language learners; collaborate closely with Co-Teachers, EAL specialists, and Subject Heads.
Parent Engagement: Maintain proactive, transparent, and culturally sensitive communication with families (including Mandarin-speaking parents) regarding student progress and social-emotional growth.
Community Life: Contribute actively to school events, student admissions assessments, and extra-curricular activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Primary/Elementary Education, English, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Valid Teaching Qualification/License.
Recognized TEFL / TESOL / EAL qualification (strongly preferred).
Experience:
Proven experience as a Primary Homeroom Teacher, ideally within an international or progressive school environment.
Demonstrated track record of supporting emergent English language learners within a mainstream primary setting.
Familiarity with WIDA or similar English language proficiency frameworks.
Skills: Excellent cross-cultural communication, strong classroom management, and a passion for inquiry-based, student-centered learning.
