Job summary

The Hong Kong Jockey Club is seeking a stable hand to join the Racing Division. The post holder will work across the stables in scheduled shifts, including overnight work, Sundays and public holidays, to support day-to-day care of horses, stable and quarantine yard operations, and raceday duties.

A Secondary 3 education, reliability, initiative, good communication, and independence are required. Horse handling experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Secondary 3 or above.
• Demonstrate responsibility, integrity, initiative, focus, flexibility and diligence.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Proactive and positive attitude, able to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Take on different supporting positions in the stables according to the supervisor's schedule.
• Handle retired or quarantined horses.
• Assist with transportation and loading/unloading of horses at entry/exit.
• Assist with daily operations and cleaning of the horse swimming pool; help with entry/exit of horses for swimming.
• Provide horse grooming services.
• Patrol the racehorse stables and quarantine stables in the evening.
• During morning track work, assist in handling loose or injured horses and injured personnel.
• On race days, assist in assembling horses for races and ensure smooth entry/exit in the parade ring.

About the Role

The role sits within the Racing Division of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, which manages all aspects of Hong Kong's world-class horse racing, from importation and training through to racedays, equestrian, welfare, integrity, and international engagement. The post holder is assigned to different supporting positions in the stables according to the schedule arranged by the supervisor. The work covers the day-to-day care and handling of horses, stable and quarantine yard operations, and raceday support.

Key Responsibilities

• Take on different supporting positions in the stables according to the schedule arranged by the supervisor
• Handle retired or quarantined horses
• Assist with the transportation and loading and unloading of horses at the entrance and exit
• Assist with the daily operations and cleaning of the horse swimming pool, and help with the entry and exit of horses for swimming
• Provide horse grooming services
• Patrol the racehorse stables and quarantine stables in the evening
• During morning track work, assist in handling loose or injured horses and assist injured personnel
• On race days, assist in the assembly of horses for races and ensure smooth entry and exit in the parade ring

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Secondary 3 or above
• Possess a sense of responsibility, integrity, initiative, focus, flexibility, and diligence
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Demonstrate a proactive and positive attitude towards work and learning, with the ability to work independently

Preferred Skills

• Horse handling experience is preferred

Workplace

• Shatin Racecourse
• Shift-based work is required, including overnight shifts, Sundays and public holidays
• 6 days per week, 48 working hours per week
• Working hours will be scheduled and adjusted according to operational needs
