About the Role
ARC Group is seeking an experienced Senior Trader to lead the firm's proprietary trading activity, with capital committed from ARC's own balance sheet. The core mandate is long and short listed equities across the United States and Asia, spanning the market capitalisation range, alongside the management, hedging and monetisation of equity-linked and restricted positions arising from ARC's capital markets activity.
The successful candidate will take ownership of principal risk across the book and develop the trading platform. Over time, and subject to performance, market conditions and applicable licensing and regulatory requirements, the role may extend to the management of third-party and fund capital.
Key Responsibilities
- Run the firm's proprietary book across long and short single-name equities in the US, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and Malaysia, with selective coverage of Europe and wider Asia
- Manage financing across the book, including borrow availability and cost, recall risk, margin and collateral
- Manage position sizing, concentration, liquidity and drawdown risk, taking into account conviction and available financing; establish exposure limits and report to the Investment Committee
- Manage, hedge and monetise equity-linked and restricted holdings arising from ARC principal transactions, including warrants, convertible notes, rights and unregistered stock
- Support the firm's securities lending and equity financing activity
- Contribute to the build-out of the desk, including broker, prime, custody and financing relationships, trading infrastructure, trade lifecycle and settlement workflow, risk reporting and controls
- Work with Compliance on restricted-list, disclosure and resale constraints across jurisdictions
- Hire and mentor as the desk scales
Requirements
- 8+ years of relevant experience taking principal risk on a hedge fund, proprietary trading or bank principal desk, with a demonstrable, attributable P&L track record
- Strong experience in liquidity-constrained names, including the discipline to size against days-to-liquidate and available borrow rather than headline screen volume
- Execution experience across at least two of the US, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and Malaysia, with working knowledge of settlement, FX funding, short-sale regimes and disclosure requirements
- Working knowledge of US resale, hedging and disclosure rules governing restricted and privately placed securities, including Rule 144, Regulation M, Rule 105, Sections 13(d) and 16
- Strong independent judgement and risk discipline, including the willingness to decline trades originated by the firm
- Fluent English
Experience building trading infrastructure, SFC Type 1 and/or Type 9 licensing or eligibility, FINRA registration, equity-linked instruments, third-party or fund capital management, and Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese or Korean language skills would be advantageous.
Why ARC Group
- Committed principal capital from the firm's balance sheet, with potential to expand into third-party mandates as the platform develops
- Deal flow from ARC's capital markets, advisory and SPAC platforms, rather than competing for allocation
- One book spanning the US and Asia, a combination that rarely sits on a single desk
- Visibility from term sheet through financing, hedge and exit
- Direct access to the Investment Committee and a genuine mandate to build
- Competitive base compensation with significant performance-linked upside
ARC Group advises and places for issuers. The proprietary book operates behind an information barrier with a maintained restricted list, and candidates should expect names on which the desk cannot transact. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
