Role Overview
Director, Hong Kong Execution Lead sits within the Execution and Quantitative Services (EQS) function and plays a central role in delivering high‑quality execution, advisory, and liquidity solutions to institutional clients across Asia. This front‑office, client‑facing position operates at the intersection of algorithmic trading and high‑touch execution. The individual will be expected to hit the ground running within a fast‑growing and strategically important area of the business. The team is highly professional, agile, and deeply client‑focused, requiring a candidate who can immediately add value through leadership, execution expertise and client engagement.
The role is expected to lead the Hong Kong trading desk, manage a team of three traders and take ownership of day‑to‑day execution responsibilities. This transition will enable greater senior focus on strategic initiatives, making this a critical hire with both operational and leadership impact.
Role Responsibilities
Execution & Trading
- Lead the HK Trading desk on a day‑to‑day basis.
- Receive and execute client orders (electronic and voice) across single stocks and portfolios using Liquidnet’s pool and algorithmic suite via the InfoReach platform.
- Deliver high‑quality execution across Asian markets, ensuring best execution outcomes.
- Trade across multiple liquidity channels including dark, high‑touch, and program trading.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
Client Advisory & Execution Consulting
- Provide proactive, tailored trading colour and execution advice based on client objectives, market conditions, and algorithmic strategy performance.
- Conduct execution consulting, advising clients on strategy selection and real‑time adjustments during trading.
- Deliver pre‑ and post‑trade guidance, including optimal usage of Liquidnet products.
- Interpret TCA outputs and translate insights into actionable improvements for clients.
Market Expertise & Intelligence
- Maintain a strong understanding of Asian market structure, regulation, and liquidity dynamics.
- Monitor competitor offerings, pricing, and product developments; provide internal feedback to enhance Liquidnet’s offering.
- Collate and disseminate relevant market news, research, and trading insights to drive client engagement and flow.
Internal Collaboration & Platform Optimisation
- Liaise across Relationship Managers, clients, members, and Trade Support to ensure seamless execution.
- Work closely with DMA and EMS providers to enhance platform functionality and execution performance.
- Contribute to platform evolution through feedback on client needs and execution trends.
Analytics & Reporting
- Produce and deliver daily or weekly TCA reports for clients or work with the Execution Consultancy team on more in‑depth reviews.
- Use analytics to identify performance trends and opportunities for optimisation.
Salesforce & Pipeline Management
- Maintain and update Salesforce CRM with accurate client notes, interactions, and opportunities.
- Track and develop client workflows with a view to increasing order flow and engagement.
- Work with the team to manage the HK desk performance and client engagement.
Experience / Competences
The Director, Trading Desk must demonstrate deep expertise in Asian equity markets, including algorithmic trading, and high‑touch execution. They should understand the dark liquidity landscape across APAC.
Essential
- 10+ years’ experience in execution trading or program trading across Pan‑Asia markets
- Proven ability to build and leverage client relationships to drive new business and increase workflow
- Experience in sales trading to institutional equity clients
- Strong experience with algorithmic strategies and trading analytics (pre‑and post‑trade)
- Excellent communication skills; highly self‑motivated and accountable
- Advanced Excel proficiency
- Strong understanding of TCA and its practical application
- Deep knowledge of market structure and regulation across Asia
- Strong understanding of algorithmic execution strategies
- SFC Type 1 license
- Ability to trade Asian equities from day one (Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, ASEAN, Singapore, etc.)
- Fluent English
Desired
- Cantonese and/or Mandarin language capability
- Proven team leadership or desk management experience, or readiness to step into a leadership role
- Experience engaging with global clients across regions (APAC, US, Europe)
- Strong understanding of dark pools, conditional liquidity, and alternative trading venues
- Familiarity with EMS / OMS platforms (InfoReach, FlexTrade, Charles River, etc.)
- Ability to influence product development through structured client feedback
- Experience positioning and differentiating execution offerings versus competitors
- Strong commercial mindset, with the ability to convert advisory into measurable flow growth
- Experience working in a matrix environment across sales, trading, and product teams
- Programming: Python, R, or SQL
