Job summary

THE HONG KONG UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY is seeking a senior communications leader to oversee strategic content, media relations, and public affairs. You will craft compelling narratives, manage high-profile campaigns, and nurture relationships with academia and media to enhance HKUST's reputation locally, regionally, and internationally.

The role requires extensive experience in journalism/public relations, strong leadership, bilingual fluency in English and Chinese, and a proactive

Qualifications

• 15+ years of relevant experience, with at least 4 years in a supervisory role.
• Strong leadership and communication skills; proactive and open to change.
• Fluency in English and Chinese with ability to translate complex concepts into engaging stories.
• Extensive media network and track record in media relations across print, broadcast, and digital channels.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement innovative content strategies for diverse platforms to amplify HKUST locally, in Mainland China, and internationally.
• Plan, execute and oversee publicity campaigns and media relations to build public support for HKUST.
• Draft and edit high-quality press materials and organize press conferences to highlight the University's education, research and knowledge transfer.
• Mentor junior team members and lead cross-functional collaborations for project delivery and results.
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with media and stakeholders to enhance the University's brand.
• Provide writing/editing support to craft compelling narratives and clear messages.
• Oversee the media enquiry desk, news monitoring services and public affairs to ensure consistent messaging and protect reputation.
• Demonstrate strategic foresight in risk management and staying ahead of current events and societal trends.
