Job summary

Stephenson Harwood LLP in Hong Kong is seeking a Senior Compliance Officer for the Business Acceptance team. The role combines day-to-day BAU with people management and requires seniority in AML and conflicts handling to support the firm’s global practice.

You will lead escalation, oversee onboarding and matter opening workflows, advise fee earners, implement information barriers, and train colleagues. The position offers international exposure and a collaborative, high‑growth environment.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years' experience in a business acceptance role, preferably in a law firm environment.
• Prior people management experience would be useful.
• Solid understanding of AML and conflicts rules applicable in all jurisdictions the firm operates.
• Pragmatic, commercial and lateral thinking with problem-solving skills.
• Team-first, can-do attitude with drive to achieve timely results.
• Strong research skills and familiarity with vendors such as Orbis, Accuity and equivalents.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and gravitas for discussions with partners and staff.
• Experience of using Intapp Open and Walls.
• Ability to work under time pressure and prioritise to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day client onboarding and matter opening workflows with a focus on efficiency and service to the business.
• Act as a senior point of contact for complex conflicts and AML queries.
• Manage workload and prioritise competing demands across the team.
• Analyse conflict search results and advise on regulatory and commercial conflicts.
• Implement and maintain information barriers and conduct sanctions screenings.
