Job summary

Build8 Limited is seeking a Mechanical Design & Product Engineering Researcher to drive mechanical design, materials engineering, and product development for robotic characters. You will develop compact mechanisms, novel linkages, soft-shell structures, and manufacturing processes for production‑ready systems.

You will apply data‑driven methods to optimise design parameters, material selection, and quality assurance, while coordinating with suppliers and embedded systems teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related STEM discipline.
• Hands-on experience with full-cycle product development from concept through prototyping to production.
• Experience with 3D CAD modelling and engineering drawing creation.
• Proficiency in analytical and computational tools (MATLAB, ANSYS, Python, or R) for design optimisation and data analysis.
• Ability to work in a bilingual (English/Chinese) R&D team.

Responsibilities

• Research and develop compact mechanical assemblies for robotic characters including asymmetric leg mechanisms and linkage systems.
• Research materials for soft-shell structures and magnetic attachment systems, evaluating properties and durability.
• Develop DFM methodologies for transitioning prototypes to small-batch and volume production.
• Apply CAD/FEA/MATLAB to simulate mechanics and validate kinematics under loads.
• Develop data-driven quality assurance frameworks using statistics and ML to monitor production and predict failures.
• Coordinate with suppliers to explore new actuator tech and cost/performance optimisation.
• Support embedded systems teams by providing mechanical models and hardware specs.
• Document findings for technical reports and potential patent applications.
