My client is a global trading firm where you'll build high-performance backend platforms that power research, trading, and core business operations. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing scalable systems, solving complex technical problems, and working alongside world-class engineers, researchers, and traders.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and distributed systems in Python.
• Build robust APIs, data processing pipelines, and automation tools supporting trading and research platforms.
• Optimise system performance, reliability, and latency across production environments.
• Develop software for Linux-based production infrastructure and improve operational tooling.
• Collaborate closely with traders, quantitative researchers, and infrastructure teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Troubleshoot production issues and drive continuous improvements to system stability and performance.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience. (Open to Java, C#, C++, Golang)
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building backend applications.
• Excellent Linux systems knowledge, including debugging, performance tuning, and shell scripting.
• Experience developing production-grade distributed systems or high-performance backend services.
• Strong understanding of networking, concurrency, and system design principles.
• Experience with SQL and working with large datasets.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience within a quantitative trading, hedge fund, HFT, or financial markets environment.
• Candidates from leading technology companies with strong backend engineering experience are also encouraged to apply.
• Exposure to cloud infrastructure, containerisation, CI/CD, or Infrastructure-as-Code.
• Knowledge of market data, exchange connectivity, or low-latency systems is advantageous.
