Job summary

Canopy is seeking a Project Engineer in Hong Kong to carry programs from prototype through mass production, working with contract manufacturers in Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Xiamen on tooling, sample builds, and validation. You will own the quality side of that work, defining acceptance criteria, running EVT, DVT, and PVT builds, and holding the line at pre-shipment inspection before product ships.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in mechanical engineering and manufacturing for consumer products.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, or related field.
• Expert in injection mold tooling design and DFM.
• Toolkit: FMEA, DOE, root cause analysis, AQL, PSI.
• Hands-on CAD in Onshape or SolidWorks to modify parts.
• Experience with plastics and consumer electronics.
• Fluent English plus Cantonese and Mandarin; US/EU experience is a plus.
• Willingness to travel ~50%.

Responsibilities

• Transform US designs into manufacturable parts and optimize CAD for tooling and cost.

OVERVIEW

As Project Engineer in our Hong Kong office, you are Canopy's engineering presence in region. You will carry programs from prototype through mass production, working directly with our contract manufacturers across Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Xiamen on tooling, sample builds, and validation. You will own the quality side of that work too, defining acceptance criteria, running EVT, DVT, and PVT builds, and holding the line at pre-shipment inspection before product ships. This is a hands-on role for a mechanical engineer who is happiest on a factory floor with a sample in one hand and a drawing in the other, and who wants the quality result to be theirs. Partner daily with the US design, engineering, and supply chain teams.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• MECHANICAL AND DESIGN ENGINEERING: You will take designs from our US team and make them manufacturable, refining CAD in Onshape to meet tooling, assembly, and cost realities. You will review tooling drawings, flag draft and wall thickness problems before steel is cut, and sit with tooling engineers on gate and ejection decisions. When a part cannot be made the way it was drawn, you will propose the version that can.
• BUILD EVENT AND VALIDATION OWNERSHIP: You will plan and run EVT, DVT, and PVT at the factory, from sample quantities and test fixtures through data capture and gate readiness. You will decide what "passed" means before the build starts, then report honestly on whether it did. Getting these gates right is what keeps a program from discovering a problem during mass production.
• QUALITY ENGINEERING AND FAILURE ANALYSIS: You will define failure modes before they happen, running FMEA on new programs and building test plans with acceptance criteria that reflect how these products actually get used. When something fails in the field, you will drive root cause at the factory and qualify the fix. Our field failure threshold is 2% or lower and you will own the engineering side of holding it.
• PRE-SHIPMENT INSPECTION: You will build and run PSI protocols with our QC team, setting sampling plans, defect classifications, and the criteria that hold a container. Some of this is standing in a warehouse pulling units yourself. That final gate protects both the customer and a retail launch date, so it does not get delegated away.
• SUPPLIER AND FACTORY PARTNERSHIP: You will work directly with our contract manufacturers. Expect roughly half your time on site across Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Xiamen. You will also support new supplier qualification and RFQ evaluation as our assortment grows.
• ENGINEERING CHANGE AND DOCUMENTATION: You will run engineering change requests and notices end to end, from raising the change through qualification and phase‑in at the factory. You will keep BOMs, drawings, inspection protocols, and Engineering Decks current so the next person can pick up a program cold. This is the least glamorous part of the job and the part that compounds.
• CROSS‑FUNCTIONAL PARTNERSHIP: You are the engineering bridge between US design and engineering, HK supply chain, and the factories, and you will translate in both directions so nothing gets lost in a handoff. You will also work with our CX and quality teams on field failure data, closing the loop from a customer complaint back to a design or process change.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• 5+ years in mechanical engineering and manufacturing for consumer products, including at least one program you personally carried through mass production.
• A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related field.
• Real depth in injection mold tooling design and DFM. You can look at a part and tell us where it will short, warp, or sink, and what to change.
• A working quality engineering toolkit: FMEA, design of experiments, structured root cause analysis, AQL sampling, and PSI. You have used these on real builds, not just studied them.
• Hands‑on CAD ability in Onshape, SolidWorks, or similar, enough to modify parts and produce clean drawings rather than only review them.
• Extensive experience with plastics, packaging, and consumer electronics, ideally on appliances with pumps, fans, filtration, or water paths.
• Fluent technical English plus Cantonese and Mandarin. Prior experience supporting US or EU companies is a strong plus.
• Ability to travel roughly 50% of the time to suppliers in and around Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Xiamen

LOCATION

• This role is based onsite in our Hong Kong office or Mainland China(Shenzhen/Dongguan), with roughly 50% travel to suppliers in mainland China.
