Job summary

Jobtailor in Hong Kong is seeking an experienced Production & Operations Manager to oversee end-to-end manufacturing across outsourced partners in Asia. You will coordinate production schedules, monitor metrics, and drive output while controlling costs.

You will lead vendor negotiations, ensure quality and compliance, and push Lean/Six Sigma initiatives to reduce downtime and waste. Fluency in English and Mandarin is required.

Qualifications

7+ years experience in production, sourcing or operations management in hard goods.
Experience with luggage, bags, or injection-molded lifestyle products is required.
Proven track record managing outsourced manufacturing partners in Asia (China, Vietnam, Indonesia, etc.).
Fluent in English and Mandarin.
Immediate availability highly preferred.

Job description

Plan, coordinate, and oversee production schedules to meet demand and delivery deadlines
Monitor production metrics including efficiency, yield, and downtime, and implement corrective actions
Optimize workflows by managing labor, equipment, and materials to maximize output while minimizing costs
Manage and develop relationships with outsourced factory partners specializing in hard goods, soft goods, and injection molding for luggage, wheels, and handles
Conduct regular factory audits for ethical manufacturing standards, social compliance, and brand-specific capabilities
Negotiate manufacturing pricing, payment terms, and lead times while pursuing annual cost reduction targets
Onboard new vendors to support product development and capacity scaling
Ensure operations follow environmental and industry-specific regulations
Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations with Quality Assurance
Enforce quality standards and resolve non-conformances with Quality Assurance
Lead Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement initiatives
Implement and track KPIs such as downtime and scrap rates
Drive root cause analysis and problem-solving for recurring issues
Develop and manage production budgets covering labor, consumables, and maintenance
Coordinate maintenance for equipment reliability and minimal unplanned downtime
Manage raw material and supply inventory with the supply chain
Partner with Product Development, Quality, and Logistics to align production with business goals
Communicate production status, risks, and achievements to senior leadership
Apply and support sustainability initiatives

Requirements

Highly organized and detail-oriented
Exceptional communication and negotiation skills
Deep understanding of manufacturing processes including injection molding, aluminum extrusion, sewing, and assembly
Strong proficiency in Excel and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Netsuite, or similar) for tracking production data and inventory
Strong commercial acumen with experience in vendor contract negotiation
Ability to bridge the gap between brand expectations and factory realities
Fluency in English and Mandarin required
7+ years of experience in production, sourcing, or operations management within hard goods
Mandatory specific experience with luggage, bags, or injection-molded lifestyle products (suitcases, backpacks, travel accessories)
Proven track record of managing outsourced manufacturing partners in Asia (China, Vietnam, Indonesia or similar regions)
Immediate availability highly preferred
