Job summary

Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Sha Tin) seeks a lecturer in the Department of Engineering to teach in areas including Commissioning and Maintenance, BIM, Piped Services, Fire Safety Installations, Building Services Design, HVAC and Electrical Installation.

The role covers lectures, seminars, labs, assessments, and supervision of projects, with involvement in curriculum development, validation and industry engagement. Remuneration is hourly with flexible duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• A relevant recognised degree or professional qualification, preferably with a post-graduate qualification.
• At least 3 years' relevant teaching and/or industry experience in the relevant field.
• Good communication and presentation skills in both English and Chinese.

Responsibilities

• To perform teaching duties in areas such as Commissioning and Maintenance, BIM, Piped Services and Fire Safety Installations, Building Services System Design, HVAC, Electrical Installation, and related subjects.
• To conduct lectures, seminars and laboratory work, and set and mark assessments; supervise projects and fieldwork placement.
• To contribute to student/academic administration and develop curriculum/teaching materials.
• To assist in programme validation/accreditation and engage with industry networks and consultancy.

Major Duties

• To perform teaching duties in the areas of Commissioning and Maintenance, Building Information Modelling, Piped Services and Fire Safety Installations, Building Services System Design, Indoor Environment and HVAC Systems, Electrical Installation, and other engineering subjects. The teaching-related duties include conducting lectures, seminars, and laboratory work, setting and marking students' assessments, supervision of students' projects and fieldwork placement;
• To carry out duties in relation to student and academic administration;
• To develop programme curriculum and teaching, learning and assessment materials;
• To assist in validation and accreditation of programmes; and
• To participate in networking with industry / industrial attachments, departmental projects and functions including but not limited to consultancy services, research studies, seminars and exhibitions.

Requirements

• A relevant recognised degree or professional qualification, preferably with a post-graduate qualification;
• At least 3 years' relevant teaching and/or industry experience in the relevant field and preferably in Building Services Engineering as mentioned in the Major Duties (a) above; and
• Good communication and presentation skills in both English and Chinese.

Notes

• Applicants with substantial experience and achievements in the relevant field but without the required academic/ professional qualifications OR those with exceptional academic/ professional qualifications but with less experience may also apply.
• Shortlisted candidates will be required to take a written assessment.
• The appointee(s) will be remunerated in hourly rate.
• The appointee(s) may be required to perform duties outside normal office hours and in other designated places as assigned.
